Terrible. Car was unusable 1.5 weeks after purchase. When contacting Harpers of Essex they were not interested in covering the costs for repairs and accused me of abusing the vehicle which caused it to fail.

Many similar reviews as my situation. Bought a Merc from them. Shiny and sparkling. But the inside (mechanically) is just horrendous. First week issue with first gear, impossible to put into reverse and now I’m facing issue with the timing belt. I had the bearing changed the first month and tyre were in bad condition, had that changed for \xa390. AC stopped working, issue with compressor. Have ordered that, additional \xa3200. In built system has issues, keeps saying bonnet open when it’s closed and for its doors too. Warranty was given for 6 months but they require a diagnostics report and most garages don’t make paper reports but just word to mouth and the report costs over \xa3150. Warranty people don’t reply and have no contact number. 6 month warranty for engine and gearbox, HA! Useless!

Regrettably I can't comment as a customer - only a potential one! Having initially engaged this dealer via email link from Autotrader I was asked to call them (they wouldn't call me). I had a very pleasant conversation on a Saturday morning about the car I was interested in, but a Director needed to be consulted about a PX valuation, and that wouldn't happen until the Monday. We also discussed other things about the car, and I was promised answers together with a walkaround video when I got the call back on the Monday. Having heard nothing, I phoned on Tuesday afternoon and was told the individual I'd originally spoken to was unavailable. I left a message and my phone number and I was promised a call back. It's now Friday, and no-one has emailed or phoned....!! I hope the Director reads this, as they need to know how their staff are conducting business...or not! It's a real shame! 😟

After buying a car from this company a engin light came a few hours later itook car back and made coplaint they wasnt interested at all no after sales back up please dont use this car sales place no offer to rectify or refund money thats how they treat a 82 year old customer buyers beware

Harpers of essex have helped me with the purchase of my new car today, from start to finish Gemma has been a star, she's honest, helpful and friendly and I didn't feel pressured into buying. Iv brought many a car over the last 20 years and this is the most relaxed i have felt in a dealers environment. I would highly recommend Harpers of essex to anyone looking for a good quality used car.
