I would strongly advise others to avoid. I bought a £14,000 2020 car with 30,000 miles. I had it for ten days and driven it 180 miles, before engine fault warning lights came on. I had to pay £220 for a Peugeot main dealer to diagnose the faults. The independent tests were only needed as Car World blamed the issue on a flat battery without even seeing the car and they (incorrectly) say a battery issue isn’t covered by statutory return rights or their expensive warranty as they would deem any battery fault “wear and tear” despite me having only had the car for ten days. The independently test showed it was not a battery fault and Car World had supplied the car with a non-genuine sensor part (causing the engine fault) and a pre-existing mechanical defect (the coolant tank is leaking). The car then actually broke down while being test driven by the Peugeot team. This is not something you expect when buying from a dealer, especially as I was assured the car had been independently assessed and was in great condition. Since raising the issue, resolving it has been incredibly difficult. I have called their after sales team upwards of twenty times and sent countless emails. I haven’t had a single call back from a manager despite multiple requests. My partner is being forced to drive a faulty and potentially dangerous car 80 miles back to Peterborough as Car World refused to collect it or even respond to my requests after the car broke down. They sent me a “rejection policy” which is inconsistent with statutory rights under Consumer Rights Act. I have no faith that Car World will do the right thing and issue me a refund (as is my right within 30 days of purchase) without trying to delay and I am preparing to take legal action against them. Car World acted dishonestly during the sales negotiation, particularly in pursuading me not to get a AA test on the car prior to purchase (telling me it was a waste of money as the car had only been serviced at the main dealer and had passed a recent independent MOT “with flying colours” and saying they wouldn’t return my deposit if AA found anything other than mechanical failures - which is the opposite of what they had originally told me). I then discovered Car World had actually MOTd the car itself, it had been sat unsold at both Car World and another dealer for months beforehand (rather than being carefully looked after by its owner etc etc). Car World must not have checked the car itself as Main Dealer said that the coolant leak would have been obvious if they had. Car World refused to collect the car and then pretended their service team werent open on Saturdays, trying to make it even more difficult for me to return the vehicle. I then phoned them on a Saturday and found them open and suddenly could book an appointment. Overall, this has been an incredibly stressful and time-consuming experience, with no confidence that the matter is being handled responsibly. I would not trust this dealer again. They aren’t regulated by a Motor Ombudsman and I have unfortunately seen why.
