After years of buying multiple cars from Arnold Clark for myself and my wife, this year I took my business elsewhere—and it is entirely due to a massive failure on their part. Multiple Arnold Clark garages used their internal valuation system to price my car at just £14k. Knowing this was frankly an insulting and inaccurate figure, I made multiple attempts to get them to investigate the price. No one was interested. Not a single salesman, manager, or customer services representative would take two minutes to look online and see that the standard trade-in price across the market was around £22k. To make matters worse, when I called customer services to discuss it, a representative angrily argued with me down the phone, insisting they needed to physically see the vehicle to change the value—completely ignoring the fact that the garage in question was hundreds of miles away. The level of incompetence and dismissiveness cost them a long-term customer. Since walking away from Arnold Clark, I received trade-in offers of £21k and £22k from various reputable garages, including £22k at John Clark BMW. I have since sold the car to a dealer for £23k (who currently has it listed for sale at £27k) and bought a brand-new BMW from John Clark instead. An incredibly disappointing and wasted opportunity for Arnold Clark. Complete lack of care, poor customer service, and an outsourced valuation system that is totally out of touch with reality.
To start off with the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable when purchasing the car. Unfortunately that's where the positives end. The car was handed over with an active safety warning light. At the time I thought a safety feature was turned off in the car settings and I could just enable it. This turned out not to be the case and the car does need attention. So that's number one - handed over with an active warning light. I had to re calibrate the tyre pressure warning light twice on my journey home with this not being done at the dealership. That's number two - not calibrated correctly. Number three - I paid extra for paint protection from the dealership. This was not applied! It was inspected by an independent valeter and confirmed. I have since applied this at my own cost. On advice from the dealership I contacted Arnold Clarke customer service about the mechanical problems. They told me that the car needed to go to a Jeep main dealer. This was booked in for me and then cancelled on the day of the appointment by the main dealer. I was then advised by Jeep that the car couldn't be looked at for over 1 month (this has increased since) A few weeks on, the infomat system completely failed including car speed and remaining charge. So I now have these 2 problems. I emailed Arnold Clark customer service about these problems over a week ago now and have as of yet been ignored. I sent a follow up email today and if I've not heard from them by the end of the week I will be seeking a full refund through my credit card company. All in all abysmal after sales service.
We spent all day Saturday going round the majority of dealers around Aberdeen. Can honestly say the team at AC Hyundai were leagues above the rest. They were friendly and professional the minute we arrived. Totally at ease considering we were making a big investment to us anyway. Zero pressure and very informative. Got us in the car for test drive within 15 minutes and after purchase a few days later when we picked up our car this evening Jamie gave a thorough walk through all the tech the Tucson had to offer and set all the phone link apps for us. Will definitely be returning to AC Hyundai for our next car. I should mention a thanks to the service team who got the car in and serviced at short notice. Thanks again to Jamie and team. Made buying a new car a pleasant experience just not as fun as driving about in the new motor. Cheers!
