Used Volkswagen Golf Match Edition

The Volkswagen Golf Match Edition is a mid-range trim level of the Volkswagen Golf, which is VW’s mid-size hatchback. The model was introduced towards the end of production of the seventh-generation Golf and was sold new for just a year or so starting in 2019. Somewhat confusingly, the Match Edition model replaced an earlier Match trim sold from 2018 and added more features.

The Volkswagen Golf is a mid-size hatchback and estate that has been a perennial favourite in the UK. On sale in the UK since the 1970s, the Golf is now in its eighth generation. The Match Edition we’re talking about here was available only in 2019 and 2020 as part of the seventh-generation Golf that was sold new from 2013 to 2020. The Golf is a rival for cars like the Ford Focus and Vauxhall Astra, but it’s also sophisticated enough to be an alternative to more premium cars like the BMW 1 Series and Audi A3.

The Match Edition is an enhanced version of the Golf Match, which was introduced in 2018 to replace two other trims, called the SE and SE Nav. This placed it in the lower end of the mid-range of the Golf line-up, but the Match Edition still has lots of equipment included as standard. 

The Match Edition sits in the lower mid-range of the “regular” Golf line-up – that is, it’s not one of the performance models like the Golf GTI or the Golf R. The Golf S was the entry-level model for this generation of Golf, and the Match Edition is the next rung up the ladder with 16-inch alloy wheels and tinted rear windows. Inside, you’ll get an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system with DAB radio, sat nav, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Adaptive cruise control is included as standard, as is two-zone climate control. Unlike the regular Match, the Match Edition includes a winter pack, which means heated front seats and heated washer jets, both of which promise you less stress on an icy morning.

The power (in bhp) in a Volkswagen Golf Match Edition will depend on which engine you choose. Petrol choices have 114bhp, 128bhp or 148bhp, while diesel options offer 14bhp or 148bhp.

The Match Edition was a special, short-run trim that only featured on the Volkswagen Golf. It’s not available on any other Volkswagen cars.
