The style of the car

The DS 3 Crossback is one of the most distinctive small SUVs available and its large front grille makes it really stand out on the road. The interior looks great, too, with diamond-shaped air vents and buttons. Many buyers choose bold body colours and all models have a contrasting roof in grey or white.

How it drives

You get a smooth and comfortable ride from the DS 3 Crossback, even on really bumpy roads. It feels light and responsive, too, though there are other small SUVs that are more fun to drive. Its light steering and small size make parking easy, helped by standard parking sensors (some models have cameras, too). Petrol and diesel engines are available, all of which give good acceleration. An automatic gearbox is standard with the 130hp and 155hp PureTech petrol engines. There’s also an electric version, badged E-Tense.

The interior

The DS 3 Crossback is a small SUV with five doors and five seats. It’s about the same size as the Audi Q2 or the Citroen C3 Aircross. The DS 3 Crossback is more spacious than you might expect for such a small car – it’s only slightly longer than a Ford Fiesta – with enough space for four adults. The boot has plenty of space for the weekly shop, but there are other small SUVs that are more practical. The interior has an upmarket feel and all models have smartphone connectivity, air con, parking sensors, touchscreen display and keyless start.

Running costs

Both petrol and diesel DS 3 Crossback models are very fuel efficient. According to official figures, petrol models give fuel economy of 41mpg to 49mpg while the diesels give 54mpg to 62mpg. The electric E-Tense model has a battery range of up to 186 miles. Road tax and insurance costs are low. Safety organisation Euro NCAP gave the DS 3 Crossback a four-star rating, or five stars when fitted with advanced driver safety systems such as blind-spot detection and adaptive cruise control.

DS 3 Crossback vs rivals

Among the DS 3 Crossback’s many rivals are small SUVs such as the Mazda CX-3 and the Mini Countryman. The DS’s style and comfort really stand out. It’s not the most practical family car, but it’s great for single people and couples.
