The Citroen Berlingo Multispace is available in 2 body styles, the standard M mode, and XL. The M mode is a 5-seater that measures 35cm longer, allowing for an additional third-row seat to make the MPV a 7-seater. The sliding doors provide easier access to the car's interior, and even with an extra row, the legroom and headroom are still more than most of its rivals.
The Berlingo's boot can hold up to 675 litres without the third row but expands to an overwhelming 3,000 litres after folding the rear seats. With the ModuTop, there is an extra 170 litres of storage space through intuitive and easily accessible storage spaces. The Berlingo multi spacer also has a vast rear tailgate that makes loading easy.
As a car built on a van design, towing comes almost naturally, and it can tow up to 1,300kg. However, if you plan to use it as a tow car, opt for the diesel engine as it is more economical and more powerful than the petrol options.
While the Multispace excels in practicality, it doesn't perform well in safety tests, attaining only . In the crash tests, the car model attained 56% on protecting adult occupants, possibly due to its 48% rating on safety technology. Nonetheless, it still offers optional front curtain airbags and basic driver assistant features.
The 1.6-litre BlueHDi engine has a stop-start technology that offers 67.3 mpg, while the one without the S&S feature manages 65.7 mpg. The turbocharged 1.2-litre engine also claims an impressive 55.4 mpg, but you can expect these values to be slightly lower.
The Berlingo Multispace faced very little competition while it was in production under the Multispace tag. The main rivals were and the slightly upmarket .
In 2018, after a decade in the market, Citroen dropped the 'Multispace' from the later models' badge. Therefore, today you can only find a Citroen Berlingo Multispace in the used market.
