Why buy the Audi Q4 E-Tron?
If you want a mid-size electric SUV with a premium-brand image, the Audi Q4 E-Tron could be for you. Some models can give you a comfortable, quiet driving experience with around 300 miles of range, which is enough to cover most journeys. It’s also a very practical family car, with plenty of space inside.
Audi Q4 E-Tron range and updates
The Audi Q4 E-Tron – launched as an all-new model in 2021 – is the most compact of Audi’s electric SUVs. It uses many of the same mechanical and electrical parts as the Skoda Enyaq iV and Volkswagen ID.4 but has different styling, a more luxurious interior and extra features as standard. You can go for the standard version, which has a classic SUV shape, or the sleeker Sportback model, with a coupe-like sloping roof.
You can choose from three versions of the Q4 E-Tron, called the 35, 40 and 50. The higher the number, the more power you get. The 50 also has four-wheel drive, which Audi calls Quattro. Four trim and equipment packages are available – Sport, S line, Edition 1 and Vorsprung.

All Q4 E-Tron models have a touchscreen infotainment display with built-in sat nav and smartphone connectivity. Other standard features include a widescreen digital driver’s display instead of traditional dials, and you’ll also get air con, cruise control and parking sensors at the back.
Top-spec models also have leather seats, adaptive cruise control and a head-up display, which projects your preferred driving information onto the windscreen, so you don’t have to glance away from the road. You can also choose an automatic parking system that steers the car into a parking space.
Audi Q4 E-Tron running costs and value
According to official figures, the Q4 E-Tron 35 can go up to 216 miles with a fully charged battery. The top-of-the range 50 can go 309 miles while the mid-level 40 will take you up to 328 miles before it needs a recharge.
The 40 and 50 models take about 12 hours to recharge from a home wallbox charger. Because it has a smaller battery pack, you can recharge the 35 in just 8.5 hours. Go to a public rapid-charging station, and you can top up from 10% to 80% of battery capacity in as little as 30 minutes.
Audi Q4 E-Tron vs rivals
Other electric SUVs of similar size include the Skoda Enyaq, the Volkswagen ID.4 and the Ford Mustang Mach-E. The Ford looks and feels sportier and the Skoda and Volkswagen cost a bit less, but the Audi has the high-quality feel and advanced features you expect of a premium-brand car.
