SouthwellThe Classicwise Collection is a company formed by Sam Fretwell after he became unable to continue in his employment as a result of injuries sustained as the innocent party in a near fatal road accident in May 2012. Sam has grown up around classic cars and knows all about them as his father used to import rust-free European sports cars from California USA and also built up a successful Porsche 911 sales and service business in the 1990’s. Since leaving school in 2007 Sam worked for the family business Weonlymot.co.uk, initially on reception at the various branches, but then became one of the youngest people ever to become an authorised MOT tester, and then by the end of 2011 was promoted to Branch Development Manager. He had identified, equipped and just opened his first new weonlymot.co.uk branch in Grimsby and was on his way back from there to the Ollerton head office when he involved in the horrific accident. Calling upon his father’s experience in addition to that already amassed himself, Sam’s intention is to establish himself and his company in the classic car business offering initially classic car service and repair, alongside vehicle sales & brokerage. He hopes to be able to offer classic car storage and enclosed transportation as the business develops at Bypass Garage Epperstone. The Classicwise Collection are always interested in any classic vehicle from the early 1900’s to the 1990’s. The images to the right were taken in December 1997 the little chap is Sam. Here we have a truly charming and highly collectible 1960 Morris Mini 850, an early Mk1 example that perfectly captures the essence of original British motoring. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a low ownership and highly authentic Mini from the very beginning of the models production.First registered in 1960, this Mini 850 has covered just 79,000 miles from new and has had only four former keepers, reflecting a life of careful and considered ownership. It retains the hallmark details that define these early cars, including the magic wand gear lever, floor mounted push button start, sliding windows and correct period interior, all combining to deliver a wonderfully nostalgic and engaging driving experience. In the early 2000s, the car underwent a sympathetic restoration with a clear emphasis on preservation rather than replacement. Photographic evidence confirms that the original floors, sills and outer panels remain in place, a significant and increasingly rare attribute. Where attention was required, including the boot floor and rear valance, works were completed to a high standard to maintain structural integrity while keeping the car true to its origins.Mechanically, the car was refreshed at the same time, with the engine and gearbox rebuilt alongside the suspension and braking systems. Importantly, both front and rear subframes remain original, having been carefully stripped and refinished before refitting, further supporting the cars authenticity.Today, the car presents extremely well with strong panel alignment and a clean, honest finish. On the road it delivers the light, direct and characterful feel that made the Mini so revolutionary, offering an experience that remains just as enjoyable today.A superbly preserved and usable early Mk1 Mini, ideal for shows, weekend use or as a considered addition to any classic collection. Why not book a viewing, Our coffee pot is always hot..
