SouthwellThe Classicwise Collection is a company formed by Sam Fretwell after he became unable to continue in his employment as a result of injuries sustained as the innocent party in a near fatal road accident in May 2012. Sam has grown up around classic cars and knows all about them as his father used to import rust-free European sports cars from California USA and also built up a successful Porsche 911 sales and service business in the 1990’s. Since leaving school in 2007 Sam worked for the family business Weonlymot.co.uk, initially on reception at the various branches, but then became one of the youngest people ever to become an authorised MOT tester, and then by the end of 2011 was promoted to Branch Development Manager. He had identified, equipped and just opened his first new weonlymot.co.uk branch in Grimsby and was on his way back from there to the Ollerton head office when he involved in the horrific accident. Calling upon his father’s experience in addition to that already amassed himself, Sam’s intention is to establish himself and his company in the classic car business offering initially classic car service and repair, alongside vehicle sales & brokerage. He hopes to be able to offer classic car storage and enclosed transportation as the business develops at Bypass Garage Epperstone. The Classicwise Collection are always interested in any classic vehicle from the early 1900’s to the 1990’s. The images to the right were taken in December 1997 the little chap is Sam. Here at Classicwise is a wonderful opportunity to acquire a very early and highly desirable 1961 Morris Mini Minor, presented in its factory correct colour of Cherry Red and now fitted with a lively and well engineered 1380cc engine upgrade. This right hand drive UK supplied example was built in April 1961 for the home market before spending many years overseas, returning to the UK during the 1990s and later being recommissioned and registered for road use in 2009.The condition of the bodyshell is particularly impressive and is widely believed to be largely original, with excellent panel fit, straight lines and period correct detailing throughout. The presence of original body numbers within the floor pans and the quality of the panel construction suggest that the car benefitted from time in a dry climate earlier in its life. Early production features remain evident including the magic wand gear lever, smooth sills, floor mounted push button start, early style seat hinges and centrally hinging sun visors, all of which add to the authenticity and character of this charming classic Mini.In 2013 the previous owner commissioned the installation of a superbly built 1380cc A Series engine which provides strong and eager performance while retaining excellent drivability. Breathing through twin 1.25 SU carburettors and professionally set up on a rolling road at Mini Sport, the engine produced an impressive 83 bhp prior to running in further to this specification the power is then delivered through a 4 speed straight cut gearbox providing a dependable and slick gear change. Complementing the enhanced performance are upgraded 7.5 inch Cooper S front brakes with wider Cooper S rear drums, a three branch exhaust manifold and Maniflow rear exhaust system which delivers a purposeful yet period correct soundtrack. The driving experience is engaging and confidence inspiring, with sharp throttle response, smooth power delivery and a chassis that feels tight and composed. Cooper S style alloy wheels fitted with quality Yokohama tyres further enhance both the visual appeal and the road holding ability. Inside the cabin are supportive period bucket seats along with additional oil pressure and water temperature gauges, while the original seats are also included with the vehicle.Accompanying the car is a pleasing history file including a Heritage Certificate confirming matching body colour, chassis number and body numbers. Early Morris Mini Minor examples of this quality and specification are becoming increasingly difficult to source, making this an exciting prospect for enthusiasts seeking a usable and highly characterful classic Mini.Supplied by Classicwise with preparation prior to sale, this delightful early Mini Minor represents a rare chance to own an iconic piece of British motoring history.
