SouthwellThe Classicwise Collection is a company formed by Sam Fretwell after he became unable to continue in his employment as a result of injuries sustained as the innocent party in a near fatal road accident in May 2012. Sam has grown up around classic cars and knows all about them as his father used to import rust-free European sports cars from California USA and also built up a successful Porsche 911 sales and service business in the 1990’s. Since leaving school in 2007 Sam worked for the family business Weonlymot.co.uk, initially on reception at the various branches, but then became one of the youngest people ever to become an authorised MOT tester, and then by the end of 2011 was promoted to Branch Development Manager. He had identified, equipped and just opened his first new weonlymot.co.uk branch in Grimsby and was on his way back from there to the Ollerton head office when he involved in the horrific accident. Calling upon his father’s experience in addition to that already amassed himself, Sam’s intention is to establish himself and his company in the classic car business offering initially classic car service and repair, alongside vehicle sales & brokerage. He hopes to be able to offer classic car storage and enclosed transportation as the business develops at Bypass Garage Epperstone. The Classicwise Collection are always interested in any classic vehicle from the early 1900’s to the 1990’s. The images to the right were taken in December 1997 the little chap is Sam. First registered in 1979, this Opel Manta 2.0 SR Berlinetta is a particularly rare example, being one of just 200 examples produced in the desirable Silver 2 special edition specification. Finished in Astro Silver, the car perfectly captures the sharp, understated sporting style that made the Manta such a success for Opel during the late 1970s.Power comes from the wellregarded 2.0litre CIH engine, paired with a fivespeed manual gearbox conversion, offering a more relaxed driving experience and improved usability on modern roads. The CIH unit is widely respected for its durability and smooth delivery, providing the Manta with strong, usable performance that suits the cars sporting character. The exterior presents very well, with clean body lines and excellent overall presence. Period ATS alloy wheels sit neatly within the arches and complement the Silver 2 specification perfectly. The car also retains its factory fitted steel sunroof along with the correct vinyl roof, both of which remain in very good condition and further enhance the distinctive late1970s appearance.Inside, the cabin is finished in the correct and highly attractive blue velour trim, a signature feature of the Berlinetta specification. The seats, door cards and interior trim all present very well and provide a striking contrast against the Astro Silver exterior, giving the car a wonderfully period feel throughout the cabin. This Manta is supplied with its original bill of sale along with a substantial history file of invoices and paperwork, both historic and more recent, documenting the cars maintenance and care over the years.Showing approximately 83,000 miles, this rare Opel Manta 2.0 SR Berlinetta Silver 2 represents an increasingly collectible example of Opels iconic sporting coup.
