Engine rebuild in 2021Harvey Bailey handling kit with uprated brakes and suspensionLeather interior2nd in class in the 2022 Cape 1000 rallyStyled at Bertone by a young Giorgetto Giugiaro, later named Car Designer of the Century, the Alfa Romeo Tipo 105 series remains one of the most admired ranges of sporting coupes ever produced. Built between 1963 and 1977, every variant carried the evocative Gran Turismo title, from the Sprint GT and GT 1300 Junior through to the 1750 GTV and, ultimately, the rangetopping GTV 2000. All shared Alfas signature freerevving twincam fourcylinder engine, fivespeed gearbox and fourwheel disc brakes, combining delicate styling with genuine performance. Introduced in 1971, the GTV 2000, or Duemila Gran Turismo Veloce, replaced the GTV 1750 and featured an enlarged 1,962cc engine producing 130bhp, making it the most powerful and developed expression of the series. This example, in dark blue metallic, was produced for the South African market. Acquired by a South African owner in 2021, it was treated to a comprehensive programme of improvements, including an engine rebuild with new camshafts and pistons, a rebuilt cylinder head, a full repaint and the installation of a leather interior in place of the original vinyl. Suspension and brake upgrades followed, along with the fitment of a Harvey Baileydesigned Classic Alfa handling kit in 2022. That same year, the car competed in the inaugural Cape 1000 rally, covering 1,000 miles over four days and finishing second in class, later featuring in Octane magazine and various online coverage. It also achieved first in class at an Alfa Romeo South Africa concours event and took part in the Distinguished Gentlemans Drive. Although it retired from the 2023 Cape 1000 with an alternator issue, this was subsequently rectified shortly thereafter.Imported to the UK in 2024 by the current owner, with all duties paid and UK registration completed, the car has seen limited use since its arrival. Prior to sale it has just been recommissioned by a local restoration specialist, including renewal of ignition components, refurbishment of the Dellorto carburettors and subsequent tuning, leaving this wellsorted and eventproven 2000 GTV ready for its next chapter.
