Ashorne2 Previous Owners, This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Classic Sale at the Practical Classics Classic Car and Restoration Show 2026 on Saturday the 21st of March Sunday the 22nd of March, NEC, Birmingham, B40 1NT. , Introduced in 1936 as the successor to the 20/25, the RollsRoyce 25/30 was designed to handle the heavier, more elaborate coachwork demanded by the era's elite. The Sedanca de Ville style, specifically by H.J. Mulliner, represents one of the most prestigious configurations for this chassis,Powered by a 4,257cc sixcylinder engine, delivering the smooth, quiet and flexible performance expected of RollsRoyces prewar luxury cars,Chassis GWN 42 was ordered in late 1936 and was despatched by road to H.J.Mulliner's Bedford Park Works on 18/01/1937,Mulliner & Co. fitted an 11cwt Sedanca de Ville body with a threeposition sliding roof in the 'Razor Edge' style for which they were becoming known,It was purchased by The Car Mart Ltd, a prominent RollsRoyce dealership at 146/150 Park Lane, W1 prior to delivery to its first keeper who registered it as XV 7 on 05/03/1937,The history file with the car is exceptional with too much information to list here but notably GWN 42 lived in the Isle of Man between late 1963 and 1985 as confirmed by its IOM registration document (8745 MN),In 1985 it was purchased by Dr. James Johnson of Washington DC who decided to leave the car in the UK having commissioned Ashton Keynes Vintage Restorations to carry out a full restoration which commenced in 1985 finishing in 1988. There are 42 pages of very detailed invoices with the car totalling about £150,000 in today's money (a replacement cylinder head was sourced in the US at a cost of 4,500 in 1985!),It was subsequently sold in the UK and details of later owners can be found in the file alongside more recent invoices, original Build Sheet, Chassis Card, engine output reports, original Owner's Handbook, restoration photos, CDs, MOTs and much more,Forming part of the Darby Collection, it has been maintained by a respected Bathbased classic car specialist but, having seen limited recent use, some recommissioning is to be expected and viewing is highly recommended.,
