IverThis Lot will be sold at auction at Symphony of Spring; Ascot Racecourse on Saturday 7th March. Rare twodoor exampleRebuilt to a high standardThe Ford Cortina Mk. II is one of those cars that perfectly captures the spirit of late1960s Britain. Offered in a wide range of engines, from modest 1.3 litre units for everyday driving to livelier 1.6 litre options. For enthusiasts, the GT models added extra performance and sportier trim, while the legendary Lotus Cortina Mk. II brought serious motorsport pedigree, with twincam power and racing credentials that echoed through touring car championships. What really made the Cortina Mk. II special was its versatility. It was a family car, a company car, a motorway cruiser, and a club racer all at once. Comfortable, affordable, and easy to maintain, it became a familiar sight everywhere from suburban driveways to race circuits. Today, the Cortina Mk. II is fondly remembered as a true peoples car, honest, stylish, and unmistakably of its time.Originally registered on 1st February 1969, this Cortina started its life as a 1300cc DeLuxe and was finished in blue. The car was off the road from 1988 and in 2019 purchased in need of total restoration. The car was then subject to a full bare shell rebuild and a file of invoices are with the car, along with some photos. It was rebuilt in Alan Mann Lotus racing colours as a tribute car. The interior was refitted and retrimmed as required, a Series I dashboard was fitted and clearly the restoration was carried out with a keen eye for detail. The 2.0 pinto engine was stripped down and fully rebuilt with +75 pistons and new rings, the crankshaft reground and treated to a new oil pump, new water pump, standard Ford camshaft, new double valve springs, and rebuilt cylinder head. A Type 9 gearbox was fitted along with a 3.9 diff. The car was also treated to a new RS2000 manifold and downpipe, Capri exhaust system, alloy radiator, electric fan, silicone hoses, new plug leads, electronic AccuSpark coil, electronic distributor and new clutch. The braking system was treated to an Escort servo, Escort M16 calipers and discs, braided hoses, Escort Mk. II halfshafts, bearings, cylinders, shoes and drums to the rear. The suspension was rebuilt with new track control arms, new inner and outer track rod ends, the steering box rebuilt and all new bushes to the front and rear.Described as being great fun to drive, this rare twodoor Cortina, in its Alan Mann tribute livery is supplied with a V5 registration document and a current MoT test certificate, even though it is exempt. A real head turner. Consigned by Stewart Banks
