Auctioned on Saturday 7th March

Car location
Iver0 Previous Owners, This Lot will be sold at auction at Symphony of Spring; Ascot Racecourse on Saturday 7th March. Recently restored. Unsurprising, a fabulous engine sound! The Alfa Romeo Montreal, as we know, bares one of the rare qualities whereupon the production version is actually more attractive than the prototype. With an illustrious design heritage from the pen of Marcello Gandini from Carrozzeria Bertone, it was always going to be destined for greatness.Despite the bonnet showing off a faux airintake, it does in fact hide something far more important. The Montreal takes its power plant from an engine that was used in the worldfamous Alpha Romeo T33 Stradale, a V12 leviathan that, quite rightly crushed all in its path. With a few cylinders shaved off, the design and poweroutput was still formidable. A 3.0 litre V8 with a crossplane crank and fuel injection, this, detuned version coupled to a fivespeed gearbox and limited slip differential made for an excellent drivers car. Stylistically, however, the most eyecatching feature is the car's front end with four headlamps partially covered by a set of unusual grilles that retract when lit. The Italian producer even went racing with the Montreal using their competitions department, Autodelta. Following on from such luminaries as the TZ1, TZ2 but also the GTA series, the Tipo 33, Alfa 33 and on suppling engines to the Brabham F1 team. This was a limitedrun supercar for Alfa Romeo with relatively few built and so these fabulously designed examples are now becoming very soughtafter. Whilst there is very little paperwork to accompany this fine example, it has clearly been restored to some extent in recent years. It has arrived into the UK from a private collection in the Middle East and is now subsequently registered here. The paintwork is in good condition as is the chrome work and Campagnola alloy wheels now shod with high performance Accelera tyres. The interior is also in good order complete, as it is, with the original Blaupunkt radio, black trim, seats and correct wooden steering wheel. Consigned by Edward BridgerStille
