2 Previous Owners, No one remembers Bullitt for the plot, and if we are being honest, no one really remembers it for Steve McQueens acting prowess. In truth, the film is remembered for a ten minute chase sequence, as Lieutenant Frank Bullitt hunts down an ominous black Dodge Charger. The star of that scene, of course, is a 1968 Ford Mustang, finished in Highland Green. For many car enthusiasts, that scene etched a core memory into their minds and lit a fire like desire to see, drive, and own a Highland Green Mustang. This Mustang, however, left Fords Dearborn assembly plant in April of 1968 not green, but Diamond Blue. After years of neglect, it became the subject of an extensive restoration, with parts invoices alone totalling in excess of eleven thousand dollars.Almost anyone could paint a Mustang green and call it a day, but this car is more special. Whilst much of the styling is inspired by the movie, such as the American Racing wheels and mesh grille, it also benefits from the inclusion of modern technology.Uprated brakes and engine modifications, which we will come onto later, help to modernise the car, making it far more usable and enjoyable. In the engine bay, you will find that the car retains its original 289 cubic inch V8, just as it left Dearborn. However, it is now fitted with Edelbrock E Street cylinder heads, Ford Performance valve covers and air filter, and an Edelbrock intake manifold. These upgrades improve both power and drivability, and thanks to a Magnaflow exhaust, the V8 rumble can be fully appreciated. The interior is tastefully finished. Like the movie car, it features black bucket seats and black carpets, all of which have been retrimmed or replaced where required. In keeping with the rest of the restoration, Kenwood speakers have also been fitted. The cars service file is extensive, with tens of invoices documenting every clip, fastener, and panel purchased during the restoration. It is clear that the car has been well maintained ever since.Mustang ownership is a dream for many, but few opportunities arise to own such a well sorted example. Finished in one of the most desirable Mustang colours and fitted with a host of performance upgrades, this car is ready to be enjoyed or further improved thanks to the vast Mustang aftermarket. As with all our vehicles, a full digital folder is available upon request and contains additional images, walk around videos, and scans of the service history. The car can also be viewed by appointment at our West London showroom.
