Rover P2 1939 Sports Saloon

An exceptional 1939 Rover Fourteen 6cylinder Sports Saloon.The Rover is immaculately presented in traditional black with black wire wheels and dark brown interior. It has benefitted from a large amount of expenditure in recent years and must be one of the best examples of its type available for sale.Late 1930s Rovers, the P2 series, were very fine cars and generously equipped. The Sports Saloons were characterised by their longer bonnet and lower roofline when compared with the standard 6light. Notable features included LuvaxBijur automatic chassis lubrication, Girling mechanical brakes and Rovers patented Freewheel. The interiors were superbly appointed with comprehensive instrumentation, a slide out tool tray under the dashboard, top quality hide seats, fitted carpets and plenty of creature comforts.The overhead valve 2 litre 6cylinder engine is very smooth and quiet running with sufficient performance for driving on todays roads. The gearbox has synchromesh on third and top gears and is a joy to use. It has had a recent top end overhaul including the fitment of hardened valve seats and is running extremely well.The chromework is in excellent order as much of it has been restored in recent years.The interior has been beautifully restored and the rear seats retain their original leather upholstery while the front seats have been recovered. The roof lining is excellent and the sliding sun roof is in working condition.Direction indicators are fitted and are worked by the substantial original lever mounted on the steering column.The rear part of the exhaust system is in stainless steel. The wheels are powder coated.A comprehensive history file accompanies the car which includes V5, buff log book, old MoTs, lots of receipts, Workshop Manual and parts books.The Rover enjoys excellent support from the Rover Sports Register and being a prewar example is also eligible for VSCC events.We sold this car to its last owner in 2022 and we are privileged to be able to offer it for sale again. Its a really lovely car and much detail work has been carried out by the last owner to bring it to a high standard. We will be sorry to see it go, however, it will give a new owner a taste of elegant 1930s motoring from a time when the Rover company was at the top of its game.We will happily consider taking a classic vehicle in part exchange.Thank you for reading.
