This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Iconic Sale at Race Retro 2026 - Collectors' Cars on Saturday the 21st of February, Stoneleigh Park, Stoneleigh Rd, Coventry, CV8 2LG. , Please note this lot is subject to vendor approval and may change. At its introduction in 1982, the Sierra's revolutionary new shape proved a touch more divisive than Ford had anticipated and some serious marketing became a priority, so it was the obvious choice to become the platform for Ford's new competition aspirations in conjunction with Cosworth. It fitted the brief well as it was rear-wheel drive, had good aerodynamics, albeit being prone to lift at high speeds and was available as a three-door. The new body kit and rear spoiler would sort out the lift issues but more importantly, Ford still needed to build 5,000 units for homologation, somewhat worrying when the company's initial approach to the dealer network came back with an estimate that suggested they could sell around 1,500 units! The eventual sales record is, of course, history. Ford went on to sell 5,545 three-door cars including the RS500, of which only 500 were built and the Cosworth engine also found its way into nearly 30,000 Ford Sierra Saloons (Cosworth three-door, Sapphire two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive). The example you see here is nothing less than extraordinary, displaying just 17,877km (11,008 miles) at the time of cataloguing, this is as original as it gets. Beginning its life near Graz in Austria, this Cosworth has covered on average less than 450km per year over its 40-year lifespan. As you can imagine, the car presents incredibly well with the gleaming black paintwork showing minimal signs of use and the classic grey Recaro interior feeling box fresh. Imported into the UK in November of 2015, it formed part of a significant Performance Ford Collection for a number of years. More recently the Cosworth has benefitted from a cambelt service in August of last year (invoice in file), careful detailing and some light/occasional use since, which is often the best remedy for keeping these Cosworths in the best shape.Supplied with the car are its original book pack, all in German of course, its handbook, original Ford Guarantee and a period Ford Sierra brochure. Most importantly, the service book displays the Sierra’s pre-delivery inspection and first three services alongside MOT Certificates from its more recent life here in the UK.The RS Cosworth has always been one to draw attention with its touring car stance and not so inconspicuous whale tail. This very low-mileage, left-hand drive example would be at home in any serious collection or to be used as intended perhaps as an excellent option for a blue oval fan’s continental tour, down to Le Mans or a weekend at the Nürburgring.
