1 Previous Owner, This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Iconic Sale at Race Retro 2026 - Collectors' Cars on Saturday the 21st of February, Stoneleigh Park, Stoneleigh Rd, Coventry, CV8 2LG. , The original Spencer King-designed Range Rover was one of the British Motor Industry's proudest success stories and, when it went out of production at the end of 1996, it still looked as fresh and forward-thinking as it did back in 1970 when one was exhibited in the Louvre as an example of modern sculpture. Powered by the 3.5-litre Rover V8 with a 4-speed manual gearbox and selectable high/low-range four-wheel drive, the Range Rover was a go-anywhere, do-anything motor car with lots of style. Early models are now know by their Chassis Number suffix, with the earliest being the Suffix a (1970-72) and these models are now the most sought-after and the rarest (behind the very short-production Suffix B).Built in 1972 and first registered in January 1973, this example presents a particularly compelling ownership narrative. Showing just one previous keeper and privately owned since 2002, it has benefitted from long-term, enthusiast custodianship rather than short-term rotation. In 2021, the car was fully rebuilt to a high standard, with careful attention paid to authenticity, finish and long-term usability. It's beautifully presented in period Tuscan Blue over a Palomino Tan interior, a combination that perfectly captures the understated, functional elegance that defined the earliest Range Rovers.Fresh to the market after over two decades in private ownership, this Suffix A represents a rare opportunity to acquire an early, properly restored example that remains true to the spirit of the original concept—robust, elegant and effortlessly capable.
