And without doubt one of the highest-level restorations too. The coachwork is excellent, which includes the underside presenting like the rest of the car. The interior and the mechanics appear to have been carried out by professionals in those respective areas – not always the case with restorations I might add. So, it is something very special indeed, but what is it (if you don’t already know)... Maserati brothers had a racing company in the 1940’s producing engines for race cars. Their engines needed to be fitted to a number of road going cars to comply with racing homologation rules. This company was called OSCA, and the Fiat 118 Cabriolet was to be the basis of their homologation vehicle. They approached Fiat and Pininfarina for assistance with funding and further design to create this spectacular masterpiece of motoring history. It’s worth noting that this car was more expensive in its day than the Jaguar E Type. The 1600S was the last and the ultimate with only 2275 produced, and it’s known that only a handful still exist.Bought by its recent owner from auction in 2013, described as fair to poor condition, it was so loved by him that he decided to set about on what was a very challenging restoration with parts hard to come by. Completed in 2017, and approximately £40,000 worse off and a very large headache to recover from, he had created this most desirable variant of the most developed and rarest of the model - the 1600S. With the largest engine, twin Webber 40’s, 100bhp, stunning Ferrari esque offset bonnet scoop, 4-wheel disc brakes and twin headlamps… wow. Today, it is believed that only one specialist Fiat 1600S OSCA specialist remains and is based in the Netherlands. With only the one UK owner since its UK registration in 2013, this special car comes with the owner’s full history of build which includes two huge files of paperwork and invoices with edited timescales of works, costs and a huge number of photographs, all nicely laminated in files. As MD of Fairmont, this is the car that if I’d had room, would grace my home driveway… Its vehicle history, ownership, accompanied paperwork, beauty, quality and the way it drives is second to none and I don’t expect this car to hang around. You may not see another for sale in your lifetime.Provided with a 3-month warranty, optional MOT and finance if required, upon request.
