Steve McQueen’s portrayal of detective Frank Bullitt, and the now-legendary car chase through the streets of San Francisco, elevated the Mustang to instant stardom. Unlike other film chases of the era, the sequence was shot using real cars at real speed, McQueen’s Highland Green Fastback pursuing and being pursued by a Dodge Charger 440 through live city traffic. The raw sound of the V8s, the unfiltered action and the authenticity of the driving made it one of the most memorable automotive moments in cinema history, cementing the Mustang’s place as an all-time classic.Offered here is a 1968 Ford Mustang Fastback that has undergone a comprehensive ground-up, nut-and-bolt restoration to a truly exceptional standard. Finished in the iconic Highland Green and inspired by the famous 'Bullitt' film car, this Fastback looks, drives and sounds superb.Originally a Highland Green example from new, the body has been professionally rebuilt with new panels including inner and outer quarter panels, doors, bonnet, front and rear valances, wings, bumpers, lamps, and trim. All glass, rubbers and exterior fittings have been replaced, and the car now sits beautifully on modern ‘Bullitt’ style wheels with a new stainless steel exhaust system with correct tailpipe design completing the look.Inside, the cabin has been completely re-trimmed with new front and rear folding seats, door cards, carpets and interior panels. A new dash top and interior hardware were also installed, ensuring the same fresh feel inside as out.Mechanically, the Mustang benefits from a rebuilt 351 cubic-inch V8 engine fuelled by a 600cfm Edelbrock carburettor mated to a Tremec T5 5-speed manual gearbox and hydraulic clutch, delivering the unmistakable sound and character that define these legendary Fastbacks.
