Insurance Group 16, What is the BMW 1 Series Shadow Edition The Shadow Edition is essentially a special / cosmetic package built on top of the M Sport variant of the 1 Series. It doesn’t generally add mechanical upgrades (engine, chassis, etc.). It’s designed to add darker, more aggressive styling touches — blacked-out elements, dark chrome, special wheels, etc. For the 1 Series, the Shadow Edition was introduced circa the facelift / LCI period (post-2017 / 2018) for the F20 generation. From the BMW promotional material: Darkened front LED headlights, black kidney grilles, dark chrome tailpipes, black mirrors, high-gloss shadowline trim. Unique wheel designs (often darker finishes) and upgrades in standard specification (compared to a base M Sport) — more kit included. It also tends to include ambient lighting, and additional features like rear parking sensors, cruise control
