This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Iconic Sale at the NEC Classic Motor Show 2025 on Saturday the 8th of November, NEC, Birmingham, B40 1NT. , One of the true motoring icons of the 20th century, Jaguar’s E-Type is a car that has always inspired loyalty and devotion. Born out of the fabulous D-Type racer, the newcomer soon acquired a strong competition heritage of its own – not least through Briggs Cunningham and Roy Salvadori’s fine drive to 4th overall in the 1962 Le Mans 24 Hours. Faster and more glamorous than virtually all of its production rivals, the E-Type caused a sensation at its 1961 Geneva Motor Show debut, where few competitors could match its reputed 150mph top speed or the brutal acceleration that allowed it to reach 60mph in under 7 seconds.Offered here, from 12 years of careful ownership, this elegant, early home-market 3.8 Fixed Head Coupé is finished in the classic and desirable colour combination of Old English White with a deep red leather interior. Manufactured in November 1961 and first registered on 18th January 1962, chassis 860147 is an important early 'flat floor' example – one of the first 175 coupés built before the recessed footwells were introduced.During its current ownership, the car has benefitted from a full and detailed restoration carried out between 2013 and 2017. Restored to a very good standard, it retains many of the rare original features unique to the earliest examples. The restoration is supported by an extensive file of invoices totalling some £65,000, including £40,000 alone with Harwoods of Chichester in 2015. The Jaguar has seen very little use since the restoration, and will require some light recommissioning prior to returning to the road.Accompanying the car is its history file, which contains numerous invoices documenting the restoration works, together with a current UK V5C registration certificate. This is a superb opportunity to acquire one of the most significant early E-Types, an iconic ‘flat floor’ Fixed Head Coupé, beautifully presented, and carrying the rarity and desirability that make these first batch of production cars among the most sought-after by enthusiasts of the marque.
