BethesdaHi Can we update the customer dealer page with this The Real Car Company Ltd The Real Car Company was established in 1987 by Ray Arnold & Ian Johnstone to specialise in the sale of early Rolls-Royce and Bentley. It was a hobby that 'Got out of hand'. Our interest in cars of the type that we now sell goes back to our childhoods, and ownership back to the 1970s. Gradually more cars started passing through our hands, and by 1986 we had decided to make a full-time occupation of buying and selling the cars that we love. We started with a single car (all we could afford) which we sold quickly, and before we knew it we had 4 or 5 on our hands! This was alongside another business (exhaust systems) that we were involved in at the time. In the spring of 1988 we gave up the other business, rented part of the premises that we still operate from now, and went full time. We started well in the boom years of the late eighties, which set us up well enough for us to ride the storm of recession in the years that followed. As the years went on the number of cars going through our hands increased gradually, we built up a workforce, and we now carry a stock of around 30 to 40 vehicles with nine of us here. Over the years we have gratefully received awards from the motoring press. We are always interested in acquiring cars of the type that we sell so if you know of a Rolls-Royce or Bentley for sale, anywhere in the World, particularly an early model, please let us know
0 Previous Owners, One of just six Derby Bentleys bodied by Mulliners, this example went through our hands in 1991 and has remained with the same owner until 2024, some 33 years. Mildly, but appealingly quirky in design in some ways, and refreshingly different from some other Derby Bentleys out there. Although the car would perhaps benefit from some tidying & general uplifting, it has a smart red leather interior, is complete and correct and is in useable condition, as you will see in the video below. Fitted with a new cylinder head some years ago and has recently been recommissioned by ourselves. A 'use and improve' car, suitably priced, sound, running well. Chassis No. B106EF Reg No. VSU 250 Snippets: Louis Antweiler B106EF was owned by Louis Antweiler a director of both Mulliner & Calthorpe, in 1924 Calthorpe ran into financial difficulties & Louis Antweiler bought out Calthorpe & at the same time he formed Mulliners Ltd. The firm of Clyno gave Antweiler their first order and later customers included Austin, Hillman, Lanchester & Daimler. By 1929 the firm went public and with the onset of WWII Mulliner expanded their range of bodies to include military vehicles, aircraft and gliders! The 2nd owner of B106EF was Col Sir Joseph Reed who, as it happened, was also a codirector of Mulliner Ltd alongside Gordon Caine, Edward Montesole & Louis Antweiler. All of these gentlemen owned RollsRoyce 20hp cars: Caine GEN34, Montesole GEN29, Antweiler GUK71 & Reed GEN57! Just prior to the onset of WWII the Bentley became the property of Harold Basil Wallis who in 1925 had formed the firm Smith Wallis & Co, a Birmingham firm who manufactured brass, gunmetal and iron window fittings, perhaps there a business connection between the two firms? By 1973 the Bentley was in Ohio with C. Fred Brown who in 1953, aged just 21 had the distinction of becoming the youngest Cadillac dealer in the world! His collection of RollsRoyce & Bentley cars included a pair of 20/25s, a pair of 25/30s, 7 Silver Wraiths, a SCI, a PV, a Derby 4.25, a pair of MK VIs & of course B106EF!
