2 Previous Owners, This lot will be auctioned via Historics Classic and Sportscar Auctioneers at The Pace of Autumn; Ascot Racecourse sale on Saturday 20th September. Long-term ownership. Extensive restoration. The 1969 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia blends classic European styling with reliable German engineering. Built on the Beetles platform, it features a rear-mounted 1.5 litre air-cooled engine, offering modest yet dependable performance. Its hand-crafted body, designed by Italian firm Ghia and assembled by coachbuilder Karmann, showcases flowing lines and chrome details. Today, it remains cherished among collectors for its elegance, simplicity, and timeless charm. This stunning example has benefitted from a no-expense-spared restoration in 2018 and is now powered by a custom-built 2.0 litre engine. During this process a full repaint and interior retrim was undertaken and a comprehensive list of works which included a complete rebuild of the suspension, steering and braking systems was undertaken. Other items included new Kadron carburettors, a new alternator, fuel pump and distributor. All new wheels and nuts were fitted, as were new stainless-steel bumpers a speedwell wood steering wheel, vintage shifter, a new clock, a retro-sound classic radio featuring Bluetooth. The file for this classic coupe contains a full list of all works. The vendor tells us that he drove this car for many years before the restoration and that the transformation was amazing. He wanted to maintain a semi-stock appearance with Porsche-like performance, and we think he has achieved this and more. Consigned by Dominic Lake.
