Finished in its original rare colour of Olympic Blue. Subject to a two-year restoration costing over £30,000. By the late 1960s, both Volkswagen and Porsche were in need of new models; Porsche was looking for a replacement for their entry level 912, and Volkswagen wanted a new range topping sports coupe to replace the Volkswagen Type 34 Karmann Ghia coupe. Volkswagen needed to contract out one last project for Porsche to fulfil and decided to make the 914 that project. Ferdinand Piech, who was head of research and development at Porsche, was put in charge of it. On March 1st, 1968, the first 914 prototype was presented and production was ended in 1976. All engines were placed amidships in front of a version of the 1969 911's 901 gearbox and for 1974, the 1.7 litre engine was replaced by an 85bhp, 1.8 litre.First registered on 1st January 1974, this pretty 914 was acquired by the previous owner in February 2022, with this left hand drive 914 having been imported to the UK in 2016. Subject to a two-year restoration which took around 400 hours to complete, with over £30,000 invested, the scope of the works included; a bare metal repaint, new insulation and carpets to factory specification, new leather dashboard fitted, all gauges serviced, renewed seals, fuel and brake pipes (copper tubing), fuel pump, regulator and alternator, new heater pipework fitted, Weber carburettors serviced, 1.7 litre engine comprehensively overhauled with good compression on all cylinders, new clutch fitted, refurbished suspension, metal undersides treated with Raptor protective paint and then recoated with Raptor mixed with Olympic Blue, new 1976 style wheels, period radio and new aerial etc. Finished in its rare original Porsche shade of Olympic Blue 'XGZ 2400' is reported by the vendor to run and drive well.Offered with a V5C registration document, MoT test certificate, large collection of invoices from the restoration, workshop manual plus tools and jack.
