      Description

GSW Automotive have the privilage of offering for sale this 1949 Healey Silverstone D Type. Donald Healey launched the Silverstone in 1949. The Silverstone was designed and built in his factory in Warwick with only 105 ever produced , and only 51 of these were D types. The Silverstone is powered by a 2443cc Riley engine with two horizontal H4 SU carburetors, a performance enhancing exhaust and cast aluminium inlet manifold. This set up gave a power yield of 104BHP at 4500rpm. Donald Healey officially introduced this simple, sleek, quaint, universal two-seater in 1949. Its appearance was clearly “athletic”, slim, its body did not wear a spongy or superfluous fat, road or race track, it was a car with only one purpose. The body consists of a single layer aluminium sheet shaped construction and it became even more attractive with it's free standing 'tear drop cycle type' fenders. In order to further improve the aerodynamics the headlamps are positioned behind the radiator grille with position lamps on the front fenders. KOE451 (Chassis D13) was built in 1949 and supplied to Mr. G. Weldon in 1950, who sold the Healey to G.A. Lewis in June 1953. Mr. Lewis is believed to have raced this car, appropriately enough at Silverstone circuit in a National race on June 27, 1953, finishing fifth overall and may well have raced elsewhere. The intervening history between 1953 and 1970 has not been documented however the next recorded owner was a Mr. Timothy J. Laughton of Stratford-Upon-Avon. In 1985 the car passed to well-known collector and dealer Nigel Dawes of Birtsmorton Court, Worcestershire and thereafter exported to Pebble Beach in the USA as part of a collection belonging to the great car enthusiast Sam Garrett. In 2012 it returned home to the UK. This beautiful Healey Silverstone would be a fantastic addition to any collection.
