Compact SUVs offer something for everyone as they provide lots of practicality with affordable running costs.

There are several models on the second-hand market that are good to drive and come packed full of standard equipment.

The cars on this list are affordable to buy, cheap to run and are all available through Cazoo.

So, if you’re in the market for one of these easy to live with family cars, which ones make the best used buys?

These are the best small SUVs on the second-hand market today.

Dacia Duster

The Dacia Duster is all about value for money and the second generation car is one of the best on the market.

It comes with a choice of petrol, diesel, hybrid and even an LPG ‘Bi-Fuel’ model, and there is the choice of front and four-wheel drive setups.

The Duster also comes with bucket loads of space, and packs a 445-litre boot capacity to make this family-friendly SUV very practical.

Expect to pay around £9,500 for a mid-range Bi-Fuel model, or £10,000 for a low-mileage petrol example.

Ford Puma

It’s one of Britain’s best-selling cars and that’s because the Ford Puma is a great compact SUV.

The Puma sits on the same platform as the old Fiesta supermini, which means it provides decent handling, limited body lean and direct steering.

The Puma is also available with a choice of petrol engines, and it comes with a rather spacious 456-litre boot capacity, which makes it one of the best-in-class for practicality.

Look to spend £12,300 for a 38,000-mile 2021 example in Titanium spec, or £12,600 in sporty ST-Line guise.

Hyundai Kona

The Hyundai Kona is a good-looking, safe and sensible compact SUV that has a lot going for it.

It’s good to drive, comes with plenty of standard equipment and is available with a choice of petrol, hybrid and electric powertrains.

Inside, there are lots of cubby holes for everyone’s bits and pieces, as well as providing a 466-litre boot capacity.

The Kona’s sharp exterior design also stands out from the competition and there is the option of a sportier ‘N Line’ trim, which features larger alloy wheels and unique exterior and interior details.

Look to spend around £16,500 for a 2023 example that has covered 20,000 miles, or £20,500 for an N Line example.

Kia Niro

Kia’s Niro is a practical and well-equipped SUV that is available with hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric powertrains.

The Niro is also well-built, has lots of interior space and provides a 451-litre boot capacity in the hybrid model or 475 litres in the Niro EV.

It also has a stylish exterior design with a choice of two-tone C-pillar colour options to give the car a unique look.

Look to spend around £18,500 for a two-year-old example that’s covered 25,000 miles and has the hybrid setup. But, if you want the electric model, you’ll have to extend your budget to around £19,000.

Skoda Karoq

If you want a compact family SUV that can do it all, yet is sensible, well-built and extremely capable, then look no further at the Skoda Karoq.

The Karoq may have been around since 2018, but it still puts up a pretty good fight in this highly competitive market.

The Karoq comes with three individual rear seats that can slide for more boot space, can tumble forwards and can be completely removed to turn the car into a van.

There are also lots of handy storage areas dotted about the place, and it also has a solidified feel, with soft-touch materials and refined powertrains.

If you want a second-hand example, look to spend around £17,000 for a 2023 car with 22,000 miles on the clock with the 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine.

Toyota Yaris Cross

The Yaris Cross is a great compact SUV, which is only available with a very frugal hybrid powertrain.

Under the bonnet, there is a 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine mated to an electric motor to produce 114bhp and can do a claimed 62.8mpg and emit just 112g/km of CO2, making it extremely cheap to run.

The Yaris Cross also is great to drive, comes with a well setup chassis, sharp handling and provides decent enough performance from its petrol-electric setup.

Look to spend around £18,300 for a 2023 example that has covered just 11,000 miles from new.

Volkswagen T-Roc

The Volkswagen T-Roc is based on the firm's Golf hatchback, but is wrapped up in a taller body style.

The T-Roc is available with a choice of petrol and diesel engines, while all models provide decent fuel economy and should be cheap to run.

Inside, there is plenty of space for a family and there is a 445-litre boot capacity with flat-folding rear seats that extend the space to 1,290 litres.

Second-hand prices stand at £16,700 for a two-year-old example that has covered 33,000 miles. However, if you want a car that has lower mileage and features the 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, look to spend £19,300.
