If you have a growing family, you might want to consider looking at a seven-seater.

Seven-seaters are the perfect choice for those who carry lots of people and need a vehicle that can be practical, versatile and affordable to run.

The cars on this list come with spacious interiors, are affordable to run and are all available through Cazoo.

We’ve compiled a list of the best seven-seaters you can buy right now on the second-hand market.

Volvo XC90

The Volvo XC90 is a great car for those who need to carry lots of people, with the added benefit of comfort and safety.

The latest version has been around since 2015, so there are plenty of affordable second-hand examples out there on the market.

To drive, this big Volvo focuses more on refinement and luxury with the seats being like armchairs and the third row of chairs is a decent size, which even adults will be more than comfortable sitting in for short journeys.

With all seven seats in place, there is a boot capacity of 302 litres, which makes it extremely roomy for hauling a large family and their belongings around.

Used prices will vary due to the car’s age, but if you look for a three-year-old example with under 40,000 miles on the clock, prices start at around £34,300.

Beige Nissan X-Trail

Nissan X-Trail

Nissan’s X-Trail is a capable and dependable family car that has slipped under the radar in recent years.

That’s not because it’s a bad choice, but the huge increase in SUVs has meant that older models, such as the X-Trail have been left on the back foot.

However, that shouldn’t put you off as the car’s excellent levels of interior space, high equipment list and frugal powertrain makes this a great seven seat family car.

Also, three-year-old cars all come with Nissan’s e-Power hybrid system, which consists of a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine mated to an electric motor, which returns a claimed 48.7mpg.

Second-hand prices are tempting as well, with 2022 cars covering low mileage are priced from just £25,900, or around £28,200 if you want one with less than 20,000 miles on the clock.

Ford S-Max

The Ford S-Max is an MPV for those who have a large family, but also enjoy driving.

Behind the wheel, the S-Max’s sporty setup means that it handles really well with direct and accurate steering.

There is a choice of petrol, diesel and hybrid powertrains, and there is enough space in the third row of seats for children.

The design may be a little dated in places, but you can’t ignore the fact the S-Max is a great car for families and second-hand prices are extremely tempting.

The used market is flooded with examples, but a 2021 car with less than 30,000 miles on the clock can be yours for £23,250 with the 2.0-litre diesel engine, and £27,000 for a hybrid car.

The third row of chairs will be best suited for children, but boot space with all seven seats in place stands at 270 litres, which isn’t too far off the larger Volvo XC90.

There is a choice of efficient and punchy petrol and diesel engines, while all cars come with a decent amount of standard equipment.

If you’re looking for one of these great family wagons, then three-year-old cars with less than 40,000 miles can be had for just £19,000 or £25,000 if you need a diesel.

The Peugeot 5008 is a smart and stylish seven seat SUV that comes with the firm’s small steering wheel and futuristic interior design.

The second-generation 5008 is one of the best-in-class when it comes to driving dynamics with precise handling and limited body lean around the twisty bits.

The second row of seats can slide forwards to increase the third row of passengers’ knee room and the seats in the back are just about manageable for small children.

Under the bonnet, there is a choice of petrol, diesel and mild-hybrid powertrains and they should all be efficient and cheap to run.

Second-hand prices for 2022 examples with low mileage start at £17,500 for a petrol car, or £18,200 for a diesel. However, if you want a mild-hybrid, you’ll have to spend more, with the cheapest coming in at £26,000 for a 2024 car with 5,000 miles on the clock.
