Auctioned on Saturday 20th September.
2 Previous Owners, This lot will be auctioned via Historics Classic and Sportscar Auctioneers at The Pace of Autumn; Ascot Racecourse sale on Saturday 20th September. Superb Heritage Edition Tribute. Lovely condition throughout. Open rear with space for bench seats. In 2015/16 Land Rover built just 400 Heritage Editions Land Rover Defenders which marked 67 years of the models production. In 90 or 110 wheelbase, all were painted Grasmere Green, the colour borne by the original 1948 Land Rover prototype and a HUE 166 wing badge, that paid tribute to the original cars number plate. Other features include, but not limited to the classic lightning bolt Land Rover badges, the heritage-style grille, mudflaps, 16 body colour wheels and a white hardtop roof.On January 29th 2016, the last ever Defender rolled off the assembly line in Solihull, England, where Series and Defender Land Rovers had been built continuously for 68 years, 2,016,933 of them. It was a 90 Heritage Edition Soft Top, converted by JLR for a very important client, who desired the last Defender off the production line. One of only two ever made, the other was retained by the Jaguar Land Rover Heritage collection. Our example is a tribute to that last ever Defender, converted By Vitesse Global Ltd in 2021, using a low mileage, well maintained and serviced 2008 Defender 90 pick-up, as the donor vehicle. Mechanically, it features the 2.4 TDCI engine, as opposed to the 2.2 TDCI engines fitted to Defenders from 2012 onwards. Externally, it is all but identical to the last made example, albeit it carries the spare wheel on the rear door and not inside, the fabric hood has windows in the sides and the front bumper is a galvanised item, not silver painted. It also comes with an additional Bikini hood, that when fitted covers just the front seats, perfect for the summer months. It is the interior where our vehicle stands out, being fitted with a bespoke Cordings of Piccadilly tweed and sage green Italian leather interior, with matching occasional rear bench seats, which are not permanently mounted, so easily removable and intended for static use only, perfect for a picnic at the races. Fitted with a full roll cage for increased safety, it is also highly specified with electric windows, heated seats and Sony Radio/CD player with Bluetooth connectivity and seperate USB port.Presented in superb condition inside and out, it has also just benefitted from a comprehensive underside preservation treatment and fitted with heavy duty steering arms, a popular upgrade, especially for Land Rovers fitted with bigger tyres than standard.Whilst a tribute to the last ever Defender to roll off the production line, this example offers more than just nostalgia, as it has been built with high quality materials to an exceptional standard and comes with an Mot certificate valid to May 2026. With just 44,000 miles from new, backed up by comprehensive service and MoT test certifcate records, it is also a fabulous example of this motoring icon, that would not look out of place in either town or country.
