The Land Rover 90 Defender Wolf, introduced in the late 1990s, was a purpose-built military vehicle developed for the British Armed Forces. The Wolf designation refers to the militarized versions of the Land Rover Defender, specifically designed to withstand the harsh conditions of active service. The 1998 Land Rover 90 Defender Wolf, was particularly valued for its agility, durability, and versatility across a range of demanding environments. Unlike civilian Defenders, the Wolf models were heavily modified to meet military specifications. The 90 Wolf was fitted with a reinforced chassis and upgraded suspension, designed to cope with heavy loads and rough terrain. Power came from the dependable 300Tdi turbo-diesel engine, chosen for its mechanical simplicity and reliability under combat conditions. This engine could be easily maintained in the field, an essential factor for military logistics. The Wolf also received specialized features such as 24-volt electrical systems to support military communications equipment, run-flat tyres, and optional weapon mounting systems. The 90 Defender Wolf was most often deployed for reconnaissance, troop transport, and general utility roles. Its compact size allowed it to manoeuvre through narrow tracks and urban environments while still providing excellent off-road capability. Many vehicles were equipped with soft tops or hardtops depending on operational requirements, and they could be fitted with roll cages for added protection. This Land Rover 90 Wolf has been cosmetically taken care of and presents exceedingly well. The paintwork in its traditional matt green colour is unmarked as is the interior. Clearly the private and enthusiastic owner has lovingly cherished this Defender to make sure it presents in such good order. The exterior has all of the correct equipment, bonnet basket, axe, shovel, tow bar, roll cage etc. The interior is complete with seat cushions to the rear, rucksack and replica SA 80 rifles. This Land Rover has had a recent full mechanical check over including an engine service. The belts have only done 1,500 miles and we are advised this Defender drives well with no known faults. Supplied with a V5 registration document and an MoT valid until June 2026. Without doubt this is one of the tidiest Land Rover Defender Wolfs you will see and will grace any military show. In service, the Wolf earned a reputation for toughness and adaptability. Though not as fast as some modern armoured vehicles, its ability to perform in extreme conditions - from deserts to snowy terrain - made it a dependable asset for the armed forces. Even today, many Land Rover Defender Wolfs remain in service or in reserve, while decommissioned examples are highly sought after by collectors, admired for their rugged design and military heritage.
