You might be drawn to a Peugeot SUV because of its many charms – each one is stylish, practical, smooth to drive and gives you a choice between fuel-efficient petrol and diesel engines, as well as hybrid and pure-electric versions.

As of 2022, if you're looking for a modern Peugeot SUV as a used car you have three to choose from. From smaller to larger, they are the 2008, the 3008 and the 5008. Here’s our guide to deciding which one might be right for you.

Peugeot 3008

What’s the smallest SUV that Peugeot makes?

The 2008 is the smallest Peugeot SUV. It’s roughly the same size as other compact SUVs such as the Renault Captur and the Volkswagen T-Roc. Like those cars, the Peugeot 2008 is relatively small and easy to park but it gives you more interior space than you find in compact hatchbacks such as the Peugeot 208

There are two generations of 2008. The newest version went on sale in 2019 – its futuristic design and the option of the pure-electric e-2008 version are standouts. The first-generation 2008, on sale new from 2013 to 2019, doesn’t look as sharp  but it’s similarly practical and good to drive and it’s great value for money.

What’s the largest SUV that Peugeot makes?

The largest Peugeot SUV available in the UK is the seven-seat 5008. It went on sale in 2017, replacing the former seven-seat 5008 which was more of an MPV than an SUV. In its current form, the 5008 has a futuristic-looking interior with the practical benefit of a third row of seats, which are ideal when your kids’ friends need a lift home or you’re treating the grandparents to Sunday lunch.

Do any Peugeot SUVs have seven seats?

The 5008 is the only Peugeot SUV with seven seats. The two third-row seats are fine for kids or adults on short journeys, but headroom and legroom are tight for taller passengers. You can fold these seats away when you don’t need them, leaving you with a very large boot space.

There are other Peugeot models with seven seats, including the Rifter MPV, which has a few styling cues designed to make it look like an SUV. Alternatively, the Peugeot Traveller can seat five to eight people.

Which Peugeot SUV has the biggest boot?

The Peugeot 5008 has by far the biggest boot once you fold down the third-row seats. In this configuration, the boot has a capacity of 952 litres, which is enough for four large suitcases or a large pushchair and the associated baby gear. With the middle row of seats also folded down, the space increases to a huge 2,042 litres, or 2,150 litres if you remove the third-row seats entirely. In seven-seat mode, the boot shrinks to a city car-like 166 litres, but this is common in seven-seat SUVs.

The other Peugeot SUVs have big boots for cars of their size. Take the 3008, which has 591 litres, extending to 1,670 litres with the back seats folded down. Even the 2008 has 434 litres of boot space, which is excellent for a small SUV.

Are there any electric or hybrid Peugeot SUVs?

The e-2008 is the only all-electric Peugeot SUV as of late-2022. According to official figures, the newest versions can travel up to 214 miles on a fully charged battery (earlier versions had a slightly shorter range), with an 80% charge available in just 30 minutes when using a 100kW public charging point.

The current 3008 is available as a petrol/electric plug-in hybrid. There are two versions – one with front-wheel drive and a more powerful four-wheel drive model. Both have an official range of just under 40 miles of pure-electric power with a fully charged battery.

The first-generation 3008 (on sale new between 2008 and 2016) was available as a diesel/electric hybrid – the first-ever mass-produced diesel hybrid.

Do any Peugeot SUVs have four-wheel drive?

Most Peugeot SUVs have front-wheel drive, but each one is available with some clever tech that Peugeot calls ‘Grip Control’ – an electronic system designed to stop the front wheels spinning in poor conditions.

If you’re after a proper four-wheel-drive car, take a look at the Peugeot 3008 Hybrid4 (the four-wheel-drive version of the latest plug-in hybrid model). Without getting overly technical, it features two electric motors – one at the front and one at the back – and it allows you to choose from different four-wheel-drive settings for different road conditions.

Are Peugeot SUVs good off-road?

Peugeot’s SUVs aren’t really designed to go off-road, but the Grip Control system has settings for mud, sand or snow, so it could come in handy if you ever have to make your way through a muddy overflow car park or get to a beach or ski resort.

Peugeot 2008 (2013-2019)

Are there any sporty Peugeot SUVs?

Unlike some of its rivals, Peugeot doesn’t offer high-performance versions of its SUVs. The focus is mostly on comfort, although the GT and GT Premium trim levels give a slightly sportier look inside and out, with larger alloy wheels and a range of cosmetic upgrades.

Peugeot SUV models in summary

Peugeot 2008

The 2008 is the smallest SUV in the Peugeot range. It’s compact and cost-effective and all of its engines are very fuel-efficient. The latest version is also available as a pure-electric model called the e-2008.

The level of specification varies according to the age of the car, but most versions have a 7-inch colour touchscreen infotainment system, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, alloy wheels and LED headlights.

Peugeot 3008

The 3008 occupies the middle ground in Peugeot’s range of SUVs, so you could say it offers the best of both worlds. The latest model (on sale new since 2016) is comfortable, stylish and available as a plug-in hybrid.

An update in 2022 tweaked the styling, improved the infotainment system and upgraded the safety features. What’s included as standard is generous, with an infotainment system featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto fitted to all models.

Peugeot 5008

The 5008 is the largest Peugeot SUV you can buy. It takes everything that’s great about the 3008 and adds even more room inside. This additional space includes a third row of seats, turning the 5008 into a seven-seat SUV. When the third row isn’t required, the seats can be folded down to create a boot large enough to shame even the biggest estate cars.
