Sell your car with Cazoo
First step:
Find out how much your car is worth
Get an instant valuation online for free
Getting your car evaluated is quick and easy! A great place to start is by using an online valuation tool—simply enter your car’s details, such as make, model, year, and mileage, to get an instant estimate.
For a more accurate valuation, book an in-person appraisal at a dealership or with a car-buying service, where experts will assess its condition, service history, and market demand.
For more niche cars, it's worth checking the listings you can find for other similar cars online, and weighing up their condition, mileage and service history against your own yourself. If time isn't on your side you might want to start at a lower price, and be prepared for potential buyers to try to knock you down a little.

Second step: Decide where to sell your car
Listing your car online can be expensive, with many sites taking a big admin fee in the process. While you can't currently sell your car on Cazoo unless you're a dealer, you can sell it for free privately on Gumtree. It's one of the largest private motors markets in the UK*, so you're sure to get plenty of eyes on your listing!
*Gumtree has over 20k active private used car listings as of March 2025 making Gumtree one of the UK’s largest private motors marketplaces (source: autobiz, March 2025).

Dealer part exchange
If you’ve spotted a car for sale that you’re interested in via one of our dealers, you could always part exchange your vehicle, using its value against the vehicle you’re looking to purchase. Many dealers offer this option, so it's always worth asking by contacting the seller of the car you're looking to buy. We list cars from dealerships nationwide so part exchange could be the right option for you.
Top Tips for Selling Your Car
Get Your Car Looking Its Best
- Give it a deep clean: A spotless car, inside and out, makes a fantastic first impression. Don't forget the boot and windows!
- Fix the small stuff: Address any minor scuffs, scratches, or warning lights. Small fixes can make a big difference to your car's appeal.
- Gather your documents: Find your V5C logbook, service history, and MOT certificate. Having everything ready shows you’re an organised and trustworthy seller.
Be Honest
- Take great photos: Choose a nice location with good light. Capture your car from all angles, and be sure to include clear shots of the interior. Don't hide any blemishes or damage – a buyer will spot these and use it as any reason to knock you down on price.
- Write an honest description: Highlight the best features but also be upfront about any issues. Honesty builds trust with potential buyers.
Negotiate with Confidence
- Know your bottom line: Decide in advance the lowest price you’ll accept, without necessarily revealing this to the buyer. Stay firm and confident if they're offering you less than you're happy with.
- Stay friendly but firm: A smile goes a long way, but don’t be afraid to hold your ground. Remember, you know your car’s value best.
- Be prepared for offers: Expect some haggling—it's all part of the process! If a buyer’s offer is too low, respond politely and explain why your price is fair.
- Don’t rush the decision: If you’re not happy with an offer, thank the buyer and give yourself time to consider. Sometimes walking away leads to a better deal.
Sort the paperwork
- Put everything in writing: Once you’ve agreed a price, confirm the details in writing—just to keep things clear for everyone.
- Transfer ownership: Once you've agreed on a sale, make sure you complete the V5C and provide the new owner with the green 'new keeper' slip. Don’t forget to tell the DVLA you’ve sold it – you can also do this online instantly and your car tax will be cancelled or automatically refunded (if paid in advance).
- Cancel your insurance: Don't forget to cancel your insurance once the sale has gone through. Once the new buyer has the car in their name and pulls away it's their responsibility. Many insurers will refund you the cost of your remaining insurance for the rest of the term, which you can then put towards your new car.
