Used Kia Sportage 2 cars

The Kia Sportage 2 is the one of the most affordable versions of the Kia Sportage, which is Kia’s mid-size SUV. The 2 trim is one of the most cost-effective models but it still comes with a good amount of features for the price. 

The Kia Sportage is a mid-size SUV that’s similar in size and shape to cars such as the Nissan Qashqai and the Volkswagen Tiguan. It’s been around since the 1990s, but we’re looking here at the two most recent versions. The first is the Kia Sportage that was sold new from 2016-2021 and the second is the all-new model that arrived early in 2022. They’re easy to tell apart because the newer Sportage has much more futuristic styling but both follow a similar formula, giving you smart SUV looks and good practicality at very competitive prices. 

Generally, the 2 sits at the bottom of the Sportage range. When the 2016 Sportage was introduced, trim levels started with ‘KX’ followed by a number (KX-1, KX-2 etc), but from 2017 the prefix was dropped to leave just numbers from 1 to 4. The higher the number, the more features the car included as standard. As time went on, sales of the 1 model never really took off, so it was dropped, leaving the 2 as the entry-level model.

Although an entry-level trim, the Kia Sportage 2 is well-equipped; one of the Sportage’s key selling points is how much kit is included across the range.

The exact feature list and trim lineup varies year-by-year. As a general guide, in the latest 2022-onwards Sportage, the 2 model includes 17-inch alloy wheels, tinted rear windows and chrome exterior trim, as well as a 7.0-inch touchscreen with sat nav, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Heated front seats also are standard, along with rear parking sensors and cruise control.

If you’re looking at the previous-generation Sportage, sold new from 2016 to 2021, early KX-2 (later 2) trims included air con, cruise control and Bluetooth. A 2018 update saw the 2 trim feature 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with sat nav, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a reversing camera. 

The amount of power or bhp that a Kia Sportage 2 has depends on the model and its  engine. The latest 2022-onwards Sportage 2 only comes with a regular 1.6-litre petrol engine (higher trims offer hybrid models) that gives you 148bhp.

The previous Sportage 2 had far more options, with a choice of petrol engine and a diesel option, too. Petrol power ranged from 130bhp to 174bhp, while the diesel offered 134bhp.

The 2 is a very popular trim line within Kia models. It’s generally the larger and electric Kias that don’t offer a 2 model, as they tend to be better equipped to match their higher price points. It’s easier to list cars that don’t have a 2 – as of late 2023, you can’t get a 2 trim in the EV9, EV6, ProCeed, Soul EV or Sorento.
