This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Iconic Sale at the NEC Classic Motor Show 2025 on Saturday the 8th of November, NEC, Birmingham, B40 1NT. , The first generation Nissan/Datsun 'Z' cars, launched with the 240Z in 1969, were designed to compete directly with European sports cars. Styled with influence from Count Albrecht Goertz, they combined striking looks with thoroughly modern engineering - a 2.4-litre straight-six producing around 150bhp, a 5-speed manual gearbox, fully independent suspension, rack and pinion steering and front disc brakes. Quick, well balanced and reliable, the 240Z soon became a sensation both on the road and in motorsport. Its drivetrain was closely related to that of the successful Datsun 510 saloon, widely used in competition, and it was not long before tuners recognised the 240Z’s potential. One of the most notable was Spike Anderson. Having worked at Broadspeed in the 1960s on Minis and Anglias, he founded Race Head Services and began modifying Datsuns. His first ‘Samuri’ (deliberately misspelled, as ‘Samurai’ was unavailable) was a humble Datsun 1200 making 105bhp. When he purchased and developed a standard 240Z into a much faster, better handling machine, a UK magazine featured the car with glowing praise. Demand followed, and the Samuri Motor Company was born, offering turn-key performance 240Zs and 260Zs during the 1970s.This example is certified and documented as a genuine Samuri, 16 of the 177 produced, and is well known in Samuri circles. Unusually it's fitted with a sunroof and when our vendor met Spike, he remembered the car and fitting the sunroof. It was regularly seen at shows in Suffolk before joining the current owner’s private collection after the passing of the previous keeper. Restored some years ago but still presenting well today, it retains a very smart interior and delivers the unmistakable soundtrack of a tuned straight-six – a key part of the Samuri driving experience.Recent work includes professional paint rectification in the correct Super Samuri colours of Datsun 110 ‘Flame’ and Chrysler ‘Tango’ metallic, with the authentic Samuri detailing reapplied by a skilled craftsman. These refinements ensure the car presents as it should, while maintaining its period character. The car is offered with a substantial history file containing period magazine features, invoices, MOT Certificates and references to restoration work carried out over the years. The active Samuri owners’ community remains a valuable resource for information, technical support and parts sourcing, making ownership both enjoyable and well supported.Rarely seen on the open market, this is a superb opportunity to acquire an original, authenticated Samuri, beautifully presented and one of the nicest examples available today combining provenance, rarity and enduring enthusiast appeal.
