This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Iconic Sale at the NEC Classic Motor Show 2025 on Saturday the 8th of November, NEC, Birmingham, B40 1NT. , The Escort RS Cosworth was an homologation special and its sole role was to incorporate parts that Ford planned to use in their rally cars to ensure success in International Rallying. Because it was smaller, lighter and more nimble than any of the Sierras, the combination of Cosworth power, four-wheel drive transmission and an effective aerodynamic package made it a Rally Giant in all conditions. Success duly followed between 1993 and 1998 in the World Rally Championship for manufacturers, but the road cars were very rare - with just 2,500 homologation special versions made, becoming known as 'big turbo cars', all capable of 150mph and easily identified by the aptly-named 'whale tail' rear spoiler.On offer here is a very special, UK-supplied, right-hand drive Escort RS Cosworth that had covered only 12,458 miles at the time of cataloguing. Delivered new via Radmore’s of Tavistock in August 1995, the RS is finished in Diamond White with the Lux leather interior.Interestingly, the car was originally ordered new with the very rare 'Aero Delete' option, however a previous Ford enthusiast owner in 2019 decided to fit a genuine 'whale tail' spoiler and lower front splitter/hockey sticks so that the car presented as a normal 'RS Cosworth', as you see it today.As you would expect with such low mileage, the car presents very well indeed and is in fact an ex-concours winning example having entered five events resulting in a first place and four second place trophies in the Standard Class.Supplied with all the original dealer literature, window sticker and the original booklets including the service book detailing the cars maintenance over the years. The last stamp in the book was in 2024 for an oil and filter service by Appreciating Classics when the odometer was showing 12,453.
