This lot will be auctioned via Historics Classic and Sportscar Auctioneers at The Pace of Autumn; Ascot Racecourse sale on Saturday 20th September. The 1990 Bentley Turbo R is a striking example of Bentleys ability to combine traditional British craftsmanship with modern performance engineering. Introduced in 1985 as an evolution of the earlier Mulsanne Turbo, the Turbo R was developed to offer sharper handling and a more engaging driving experience, while still delivering the luxury and refinement Bentley customers expected. By 1990, the model had matured into a highly respected grand tourer, admired for its blend of power, comfort, and understated elegance. At its core, the Turbo R was powered by Bentleys legendary 6.75 litre V8 engine, enhanced with a Garrett turbocharger. Official power figures were not disclosed, as was customary with Rolls-Royce and Bentley at the time, but estimates placed output at around 300bhp and immense torque. Power was delivered through a four-speed automatic transmission, tuned to provide smooth yet decisive shifts. One of the defining features of the Turbo R was its handling. Unlike previous Bentleys, which prioritised comfort above all else, the Turbo R received uprated suspension with stiffer anti-roll bars, performance tyres, and alloy wheels. The1990 Turbo R exemplified traditional Bentley opulence. Hand-stitched leather seats, thick lambswool carpets, and rich wood veneers surrounded occupants in luxury, while modern amenities of the era, such as advanced climate control and improved sound systems, enhanced the experience.Originally registered on 16th January 1990, this Bentley is finished in Balmoral Green with Parchment interior, piped in Spruce and with a Spruce top-roll. This Turbo R started immediately when requested and ran well, the gearbox operates as it should, with smooth gear changes. The bodywork has some age-related marks (to be expected) and the interior, with its ample amount of walnut and leather presents well given the age and mileage of the car. Supplied with a V5 registration document together with an MoT test certificate valid until 27th March 2026 and the original service books. This 35-year-old Bentley still looks good and is a joy to drive, any owner though must be aware the running costs are commensurate with such a prestige marque. Having said that, this car is offered for sale without reserve and could well prove to be a bargain. Today, the Bentley Turbo R is regarded as a classic, representing the brands resurgence as a maker of high-performance luxury cars. It bridged old-world craftsmanship with contemporary engineering, setting the stage for Bentleys modern success. Consigned by Stewart Banks
