This lot will be auctioned via Historics Classic and Sportscar Auctioneers at The Pace of Autumn; Ascot Racecourse sale on Saturday 20th September. Comprehensive Restoration. Long-term ownership. The Jeep. As symbolic of the United States as the Hollywood Hills, a yellow Ford Crown Victoria Taxi, or a Golden Eagle, the latter of course inspiring the car you see here. Before Land Rovers, Land Cruisers, Ladas and the like littered our streets, the Jeep was the original off-roader - of course beginning with the United States military.Willys brought the Jeep to the civilian market the year the War ended, enhancing the military vehicle to suit working people, and laying the foundations for an off-road dynasty. Within three years, the Land Rover had burst onto the scene. Three years after that, Toyota brought the Land Cruiser to market. Willys continued updating and modifying the original recipe until the CJ-5 in 1953 (CJ referring to Civilian Jeep). Remaining in production for 30 years, the CJ-5 was replaced by this model, the CJ-7, featuring a longer wheelbase and an improved chassis. The CJ-7 was in production until 1986, by which time just under 380,000 had been built. Its ten-year production, off the back of 30 years of the previous generation, is testament to the Jeeps ruggedness, robustness, and reliability. This car was purchased by the vendor in 2019, after a string of owners, one of which had the car for more than 25 years. The current keeper has had the car extensively restored at considerable cost, making this one of the best examples youre likely to find. Just a glimpse into the engine bay more than justifies our estimate, and this level of workmanship is mirrored by the interior and underside.Offered with its factory hard-top - complete with Golden Eagle decal - this Jeep has all the ingredients for you to indulge in your off-roading dreams. This is a car to be paired with a pair of Aviators, some Creedence Clearwater Revival, and, provided you dont take it on the road, a can of Budweiser. Consigned by Mathew Priddy
