This lot will be auctioned via Historics Classic and Sportscar Auctioneers at The Pace of Autumn; Ascot Racecourse sale on Saturday 20th September. Low mileage exampleDesirable manual gearbox exampleWorlds first LED rear lightsThe Maserati 3200 GT was styled by Italdesign whose founder and head, Giorgetto Giugiaro, previously designed, amongst others, the Ghibli, Bora and Merak and so certainly had the pedigree behind him. Sold mainly in Europe, the 3200 GT shared the twin-turbo 3.2 litre, V8 featured in the Quattroporte IV and Shamal, revised and tuned to 365bhp. The taillights consisted of LEDs arranged in the shape of a boomerang. The outer layer of the 'boomerang' provided the brake light, with the inner layer providing the directional indicator. Sadly, the U.S. insisted on bulbs and so, as is so often the way, style made way for bureaucracy. Nevertheless, it went on to be a great success until 2007 with the boomerang rear lights being the more desirable.First registered 17th September 1999 this collectable manual example of the early boomerang light 3200 is presented in Metallic Silver with contrasting Blue full leather trim. Boasting just three former keepers and under 30,000 miles from new this example was, having been found in a garage, recommissioned this Spring. Used sparingly in the past decade it has averaged 782 miles in a decade but due to being well stored and used on dry days only its condition is very good indeed. Within the history file we can find almost all the MoT test certificates to warrant the mileage including the current valid until July 2026, the only advisory a number plate for which has since been replaced, accompanying this is an original book pack and raft of invoices dating back to the early 2000s. The Maserati Quattroporte derived twin-turbocharged, 32-valve, dual overhead cam 3.2-litre V8 engine was supposed to be detuned for use in the Maserati so not to stand on the toes of Ferrari but it is well known that this didnt really happen from the factory, so the 3200 is ruthlessly fast and the claimed 370bhp often surpassed on early tests. The 3200 also boasts of course the worlds first car with LED taillights. Just 2,689 manual 3200 GTs were ever produced and in 2025 how many left declare just 70 registered on UK roads. This a very desirable, rare boomerang rear lights car with very low mileage and low ownership. This GT has been lightly recommissioned with fluid changes and sensible maintenance and in good order. Maserati aficionados will appreciate this car and the level of care required to maximise the enjoyment of such wonderful sportscars. Consigned by Mathew Priddy
