This lot will be auctioned via Historics Classic and Sportscar Auctioneers at The Pace of Autumn; Ascot Racecourse sale on Saturday 20th September. Circa £20,000 spent in the past few years. Original service books. Electronic ignition. Very well sorted example. The Silver Shadow broke new ground for the Crewe Company in a number of key areas, from the sophisticated fully independent suspension with an advanced self-levelling system to four-wheel ventilated disc brakes. The only major components carried over from the Silver Cloud III was the excellent, all aluminium, 6.2 litre V8 and four-speed automatic transmission with fluid flywheel, the latter replaced by GMs excellent 400 three-speed box in October 1968 while the engine was enlarged to 6.75 litres the following year. Although no power output was ever divulged by the company, merely described as adequate, the Silver Shadows superior aerodynamics meant the car was perfectly happy cruising the motorways. No less than eight individual Connolly hides were used to trim the interior of each car and the standard of finish on the upholstery, rich Wilton carpets and burr walnut veneers was impeccable. Each Silver Shadow employed 20 electric motors, powering everything from the radio antenna to adjusting the individual front seats. Build quality on the Silver Shadow remained unsurpassed, each taking no less than 12 weeks to build from start to finish.First registered on 1st February 1980 this Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II was sold originally by H.A.Fox Ltd in Torquay, this example was specified in its current colours of Willow Gold with Magnolia Hide. Our vendor, a Rolls-Royce/Bentley collector and specialist, has owned this example for around two and a half years and has spent a lot of money ensuring everything is up to scratch. The major £12,000 brake service was carried out not long before his purchase, and more recently a 24,000 mile major service has been carried out mechanically. Other important recent works include, but are not limited to, rear suspension overhaul with new bushes and pipes, new carpets, virtually whole new fuel system including all pipes, tank sender unit, weakner canister, all woodwork re-lacquered at great expense, recent new Everflex roof, air conditioning system overhaul, new brake lines and all electrics overhauled ensuring everything works as it should. Another very welcome improvement is a conversion to electronic ignition, improving reliability and useability greatly. This Shadow is in excellent condition and has recently been ceramic coated. Driven 240 miles non-stop to the sale, this example is offered with an MoT test certificate valid until August 2026 and represents excellent value considering the substantial recent investment it has been treated to.
