This lot will be auctioned via Historics Classic and Sportscar Auctioneers at The Pace of Autumn; Ascot Racecourse sale on Saturday 20th September. One of just 180 right hand drive examples, less than 80 remain. Extensively restored in recent years. Collector quality example coming from a private collection. Collaboratively designed as a joint venture between Audi and Porsche and built on Audi's 80 Avant, the RS2 was Audi's first 'RS' vehicle and the first of their high-performance Avants (estates), using the most powerful and most thoroughly developed version of Audi's inline five cylinder turbocharged engine. Since its release, the RS2 has amassed an impressive cult following worldwide and is often regarded as being the vehicle that firmly established Audi as a producer of practical high-performance vehicles twinned with their permanent four-wheel drive Quattro drive train. Only 180 right hand drive cars were ever built for the UK, New Zealand and South African markets making this a very rare car. With 311bhp available, the RS2 could accelerate from 0-60mph in just 4.8 seconds and achieve a maximum speed of 162mph. In a 1995 road test, British car magazine Autocar timed the RS2 from 0-30mph at just 1.5 seconds, which they confirmed was faster than both the McLaren F1 road car and also Jacques Villeneuve's Formula One car of that time. Even by more modern standards its performance is exceptional. The original mega-estate, this example is presented in the iconic Nogaro Blue with black leather and blue Alcantara inserts along with carbon trim panels, and it has formed part of our vendors private collection of various Audi RS cars and other driver focussed cars in recent years. The car has been subject to a comprehensive, no expense spared, restoration and is now presented in exceptional condition and ready for its next custodian. The restoration works included a vast array of new old stock trim pieces, panels, badges, grilles etc, frankly too much to list here but anything which wasnt up to scratch was either restored or replaced cosmetically. Mechanically, a new water pump fitted and new air conditioning, power steering and alternator belts, along with full fluids change throughout, new spark plugs, new battery, air conditioning service and right hand front outer CV boot. Non-standard items on the car are Bilstein shock absorbers, Samco boost hoses, uprated brake lines, Miltek cat back exhaust and a Panasonic headunit and CD changer. These cars are becoming exceedingly rare and ever more desirable. It is though only round 80 RHD cars remain in the UK and finding one in this condition is particularly difficult. Our vendor loved these cars so much he owned two at the same time, but a reduction in his collection means this gem is now available for the next owner. Very realistically guided, we think this example would be a perfect addition to any collection of modern classics, with its Porsche DNA and limited numbers, it is sure to be a highly desirable car for many years to come.
