The car soon found success on the rally stages and race tracks, cementing its status as a Ford icon.Incremental year changes kept the car fresh, and also helped to identify the model year of each Mustang by the trim differences and body mouldings. 1966 Brought in a new grille, side trim and gas cap, and the "Cruise-O-Matic" three-speed automatic transmission became available. Also fitted for the first time was an AM/FM mono radio, one of the first cars to feature one.
