Blending sporting character with luxury touches, the E stood apart and today it remains one of the most sought-after of all the MkII Cortinas. This particular car was first supplied on 4th June 1970 by F.H. Peacock, a Ford main dealer in London. More than half a century later it survives in outstanding order, backed by a comprehensive history file and two large photo albums that chart its bare-metal restoration and mechanical overhaul in detail. The file also contains the original handbook, service booklet, and period FordSport club paperwork, which really adds to its authenticity. The restoration work has been carried out to a very high standard, with a more recent external strip-down and full repaint costing thousands. Mechanically the car has benefited from a custom 4-2-1 exhaust, four new tyres, fresh rear brake drums, and fluid changes throughout, along with a thorough service leaving it fully on the button and ready to enjoy. On the road, the 1600E delivers the sharpness and verve that made it such a favourite in period. With its 88bhp, 1.6-litre crossflow engine, it offered genuine pace for its class, covering 0-60mph in 12.5 seconds a full 5.5 seconds quicker than the 1300cc model. Ford's advertising at the time proudly stated, ''The new Cortina is more Cortina,'' and the MkII's blend of space, comfort and driver appeal meant the sequel was every bit as successful as the original. With only around 300 MkII 1600Es still on the road today, finding an example in this condition is increasingly rare. This car stands out not just for its presentation, but for the sheer depth of history and documentation that accompanies it. A superb opportunity for the collector or enthusiast who values provenance as much as polish.
