This lot will be auctioned via Historics Classic and Sportscar Auctioneers at The Pace of Autumn; Ascot Racecourse sale on Saturday 20th September. Has the desirable manual gearbox with overdrive. Subject to a cosmetic restoration. Supplied with factory hardtop. Like the Triumph 2000 it was developed from, the Triumph Stag was styled by Italian maestro Giovanni Michelotti and featured the monocoque construction, independent suspension, disc/drum brakes, power-assisted rack and pinion steering. All Stags were four-seater convertible coupes but for structural rigidity and to meet new American rollover standards at the time, the Stag required a B-pillar 'roll bar' hoop connected to the windscreen frame by a T-bar. The power plant though, was an all-new OHC, V8 of 3000cc capacity fed by a pair of Stromberg carburettors and the newcomer received a warm reception at the time of launch in 1970, although longevity of the engine proved to be a problem. Most Stags were fitted with a Borg Warner automatic gearbox together with electric windows, power steering and power-assisted brakes fitted as standard. Very desirable, the Stag is well supported through various clubs and specialist suppliers. This excellent 1972 Triumph Stag, with a manual gearbox and overdrive, was subject to a body restoration and repaint in 2019. Purchased by the current owner in 2022, he then set about making this Stag the best he could. The car was sent to a classic car specialist who located and restored a hardtop, then stripped out the interior, replaced the seat covers and cleaned and painted anything that required it in the interior. The mechanics of the car were gone through to make sure that it runs and drives as it should. The cost of all this work came to over £12,000. Finished in white with a white hardtop and black interior, this lovely Triumph Stag is supplied with a V5 registration document, an MoT test certificate which expires in August 2026 and a file containing invoices for the recent work carried out, photographs from the previous restorations and old MoT test certificates. With all the work that has been carried out to this car, it represents excellent value to the new owner. Consigned by John Tomlin
