If you’re thinking about buying an Audi, you may have seen the badge ‘S Line’ crop up on a regular basis.
That’s because S Line is a popular trim level on Audi's range of vehicles, whether they’re new or second-hand.
But, what does S Line mean? Which Audis are available in S Line trim? Is it worth the extra and what do you get for your money?
Well, we’re here to help, which is why in this article we’ve compiled a list of everything you need to know about Audi’s S Line range.
What does S Line mean in the Audi model line-up?
If you look at the range of Audis available on the market, you’ll notice that a lot of them are specified in ‘S Line’ trim.
S Line is essentially a popular trim level that the manufacturer uses to increase the appeal of its models – sprucing up the car's exterior and interior design with sportier features.
It’s a similar scenario with what BMW does with its ‘M Sport’ trim level and Mercedes’ AMG-Line.
S Line offers a few extra bits of trim and sometimes equipment for only a fraction more than the standard car on which it’s based.

What models are available in S Line trim?
Currently, the Audi range of cars that is available with the S Line trim consists of the A1, A3, A4, A4 Avant, A5, A6, A6 Avant, A7, A8, Q2, Q3, Q4, Q5, Q7, Q8 and the e-tron electric SUV.
The German firm offers the S Line trim on almost every model it sells new and on the used market.
By doing this, it makes its cars look more attractive to the eye and increases the overall appeal to the brand.

Exterior changes
So, what are the exterior changes? Well, it all depends on which model you choose, but generally, Audi S Line models receive extra badging on their front radiator grilles and front wings, as well as larger alloy wheels, chrome window surrounds, side skirts, rear roof spoilers and silver detailing around the front and rear bumpers.
Also, cars like the Audi A3 S Line will get sports suspension, which lowers the car’s centre of gravity, makes it handle better and gives the vehicle’s overall look a much more aggressive and sportier stance.
However, S Line cars will not receive a boost in power or an engine upgrade, all models are simply cosmetic with the firm’s ‘S’ and ‘RS’ cars the ones to focus on if you want more
Interior changes
Just like with the exterior enhancements, not all Audi S Line models get exactly the same interior changes. It all depends on which model you go for, but as a general rule, a majority of S Line Audis receive a substantial amount of interior upgrades.
The most noticeable differences are the sports seats with thicker side boulders, there is a flat bottom steering wheel with perforated leather – plus some examples will come with ‘S Line’ badging on the wheel itself.
Other changes include stainless steel pedals, S Line kick plates when entering the car, and more chrome and satin silver detailing located around the vehicle.
But, just like with the performance-focused ‘S’ and ‘RS’ Audis, you won’t see any carbon fibre or bigger bucket seats fitted to an S Line model.

How much does an Audi S Line cost?
Looking at the second-hand market, a typical Audi A3 S Line from 2022 fitted with a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine and 20,000 miles on the clock is priced from £18,000. However, a Sport model around the same age, mileage and engine is priced from around £17,000. For a £1,000 upgrade, the S Line represents great value for money over the standard car.
The A6 Avant is a popular estate car, but it can also be specified in the S Line trim with three-year-old examples with less than 30,000 miles on the clock on the market from £28,500. In comparison, a similarly aged and mileage Sport model comes in at just over £25,000.
Meanwhile, if you’re looking at an SUV such as a Q7 in S Line guise, prices for 30,000 mile 2022 examples start at £40,000. However, a lesser Sport model with the same mileage and similar age will set you back £37,000.
If you want to go electric, the e-tron SUV is available in the S Line trim, with prices starting from £23,000 for a three-year-old example. However, a standard Technik or Sport variation is priced similarly around the £19,000 and £21,000 mark.
Should you buy an Audi S Line?
The main question here is, is an Audi worth buying in S Line trim? The simple answer is, yes.
If you look at the extras you get for your money, and that prices on the second-hand market are only marginally more than a lesser-specified model, then the S Line trim represents great value for money.
