Mercedes is a premium car manufacturer with a reputation for luxury interiors, comfortable long-distance cruising and smart, upmarket design. With smooth gearboxes, comfortable seats and high levels of equipment, you’ll find driving a Mercedes very relaxing even on big trips.
Used Mercedes models often come with high levels of technology, with many equipped with the MBUX infotainment system, which has a digital speedometer that can be tailored to suit the driver. New buyers often fit lots of options, from styling to audio systems, so a used Mercedes is usually a great buy.
Practical, reliable and with low running costs, Mercedes cars make an excellent choice for both families and commuters.
Safety has always been a strength for Mercedes. It was the first company to fit an anti-lock braking system (ABS) and the first to crash test its models. All modern Mercedes vehicles have a high level of safety equipment and a five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP. Reliability is also good, with many Mercedes models running for hundreds of thousands of miles.
AMG is the Mercedes division which makes its most sporty performance models. Trims that carry the AMG name have sporty looks but don’t have the high performance or the high costs of the actual AMG models.
EQ is the Mercedes sub-brand name given to its dedicated electric vehicles. The name stands for ‘Electric Intelligence’. The EQC was Mercedes’ first all-electric car to arrive in the UK when it was launched in 2019.
Shooting Brake is the term Mercedes uses for some of its estate models. They have more of a sporty design and feature on the car maker’s CLA and CLS models.
COMAND is a Mercedes infotainment system which allows the driver to control the audio and heating as well as to make hands-free phone calls using Bluetooth connectivity.
4Matic is Mercedes’ all-wheel-drive system which improves grip and performance on and off-road. It increases safety through better traction in slippery conditions.
MBUX or Mercedes-Benz User Experience is its state of the art infotainment system which allows the driver to control features like in-car entertainment, phone calls and navigation. It can adjust seat positions, driving modes and even the colour of the interior lighting. Operated by voice control, touchscreen or buttons, it’s fast and well designed.
GL are the initials Mercedes uses for its range of crossovers and SUVs.
