Thinking of getting a DS 7 Crossback?

The style of the car

The DS 7 Crossback looks and feels like a premium product, with some eye-catching details that make it stand out from the mid-size SUV crowd. Top-spec models have swivelling headlights that, when you open the car at night, do an amusing ‘dance’ routine. Which is actually quite useful in a dark car park. The interior has a real wow factor, too, with a large touchscreen display and a dashboard clock by luxury watchmaker BRM Chronographes that swivels into place when you turn the ignition on.

How it drives

The DS 7 feels comfortable and relaxing to drive, which makes it great for long journeys. But it works well around town, too, and parking is relatively easy thanks to standard parking sensors and cameras. Petrol and diesel engines are available, as is a plug-in hybrid. The more powerful engines come with an automatic gearbox. Only the hybrid has four-wheel drive. Whichever engine you choose, the DS 7 gives good acceleration.

The interior

The DS 7 Crossback is a mid-size SUV with five doors and five seats. It’s the same size as the BMW X1 or Audi Q3. There’s as much passenger space as a family of four will probably ever need. The boot is bigger than that of most similar cars. Even packing heavily, you should be able to fit in everything you need for a family holiday. Boot space more than doubles with the back seats folded down. The dashboard is user friendly and the whole interior feels well made. All models have a large touchscreen display, sat nav, climate control and cruise control.

Running costs

The DS 7 is reasonably fuel efficient for this type of car. Petrol models give fuel economy of 33 to 46mpg, according to official figures. Diesels use less fuel, giving 42mpg to 55mpg. The plug-in hybrid’s mpg figures are similar to the diesel’s and it can go up to 31 miles on battery power alone. Road tax and insurance costs are pretty low. Safety experts Euro NCAP awarded the DS 7 a full five-star rating.

How it compares with similar cars

The DS 7 Crossback goes up against other mid-size premium SUVs like the Volvo XC40, BMW X1 and Audi Q3. The DS 7 is a more spacious and practical family car than those rivals, looks more distinctive and has an interior that feels special.
