Thinking of buying a used BMW 5 Series?

Cazoo has a range of BMW 5 Series cars for sale. If you're thinking of buying or financing a used BMW 5 Series, we answer any questions you might have below.

The style of the car

The BMW 5 Series is a traditional large four-door executive saloon, yet it looks sportier and sleeker than most rivals. There’s also a five-door estate model known as the Touring, which features a large boot. The interior of the BMW is extremely comfortable, while a stylish dashboard and instrument panel give it a luxurious feel. All versions are well equipped, while M Sport models get sporty additions such as large alloy wheels, special branding and a neat bodykit.

How it drives

The BMW 5 Series is fun to drive, with all engines delivering great performance. The high speed, performance model M5 sits at the top of the range. Regardless of engine choice the 5 Series is great to drive, giving it the feel of a four-door sports car. Most 5 Series models are rear-wheel drive, but there’s also a four-wheel drive option known as xDrive which will provide more grip. It’s comfortable too, riding bumps well and remaining quiet on the motorway. Parking sensors, cameras and the option of self-parking technology means that it’s easy to park.

The interior

The 5 Series is a similar size to its rivals, the Audi A6 and Mercedes E-Class. The five-seater interior is roomy and beautifully finished, while the boot is large and well shaped for luggage.

The estate (Touring) models have much more space. They also feature a rear window in the boot which opens independently so instead of having to open the whole boot, you can just open the glass panel to get easy access This feature is great if you’re in a tight parking space or when opening the whole boot is a pain. The SE and M Sport trims are both lavishly equipped with everything from sat-nav to full Bluetooth connectivity, all operated by the excellent iDrive infotainment system.

Running costs and reliability

The BMW 5 Series is surprisingly cost effective to run. All its engines deliver excellent economy considering their performance, while the 530e plug-in hybrid can cost less in petrol and tax than a small city car.  Optional pre-paid servicing packs make it more affordable to maintain than rivals, while the vast array of safety technology led to a five-star Euro NCAP award.

How it compares with similar cars

The large executive saloon 5 Series sits between the smaller BMW 3 Series and luxurious 7 Series. All versions are good to drive, with accurate steering and confidence-inspiring handling. There’s also a wide range of petrol, diesel and plug-in electric hybrid engines that offer an unrivalled blend of power and economy. It’s more sporty and comfortable to drive than an Audi A6 or Mercedes E-Class. As a result, the 5 Series has won numerous awards, including being crowned Car of the Year by What Car magazine.
