Thinking of buying a used BMW 2 Series?

Cazoo has a range of BMW 2 Series cars for sale. If you're thinking of buying or financing a used BMW 2 Series, we answer any questions you might have below.

The style of the car

The 2 Series is a good-looking car. It comes in two body styles, the coupe and the convertible, both of which are upmarket and attractive. M Sport versions come with bigger wheels and a subtle body kit, while the high-performance M2 is extraordinarily fast.

How it drives

With its traditional rear-wheel drive layout and precise steering, the BMW 2 Series is fantastic to drive. Its range of petrol and diesel engines are powerful, while the M240i and M2 are true sportscars, with price tags and running costs to match. Yet while it’s undeniably a sporty car, it’s also supremely comfortable and quiet enough for daily use.

The interior

It’s one of the more practical coupe models available. It also has a large and well-shaped boot which is bigger than the 1 Series hatchback’s. Access to the rear is boosted by wide-opening doors and front seats that slide and tilt forward to leave decent space for back seat passengers to climb in. The interior looks and feels upmarket, with lots of technology and a wraparound dashboard that places the driver brilliantly in control.

Running costs and reliability

The BMW 2 Series is no more expensive to buy than the Mercedes CLA and Audi A3. It also holds on to its value just as well.l. The 2 Series is cost-effective to run, though might cost more to insure than more mainstream rivals. All engines are economical, thanks to BMW’s ‘Efficient Dynamics’ technology. The diesels rival superminis for low fuel consumption and tax bills. Thanks to BMW’s affordable pre-paid servicing packages the 2 Series isn’t expensive to maintain. Its tried and tested mechanical and electrical components deliver durability and dependability. Euro NCAP hasn’t tested the 2 Series, but the very similar 1 Series scored the full five stars.

How it compares with similar cars

The BMW 2 Series is sportier than some of its closest competitors, like the Mercedes CLA and Audi A3 saloon, which have four-doors, but it’s nowhere near as powerful as something like a Ford Mustang. Its mix of style, space and affordability earned it a What Car Coupe of the Year award. You could also consider the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer or BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer.

BMW 2 Series common questions

As a stylish and fun-to-drive coupe that delivers excellent practicality, the BMW 2 Series is a fine choice. Its interior has premium appeal and it’s well equipped. There’s also a wide range of engines that offer unrivalled performance and efficiency.

Under its sleek body, the BMW 2 Series is virtually identical to the 1 Series hatchback, which means it’s a tried-and-tested model. This is backed up by readers of What Car magazine, who ranked it as their second most reliable coupe model.

Despite its premium badge the BMW 2 Series is affordable to run. Its engines are frugal and attract low tax bills, while the brand’s cost-effective servicing packs take the sting out of maintenance.

For a stylish coupe model the 2 Series is very usable day-to-day. The interior is large and airy with lots of storage, while the boot is bigger than the 1 Series hatchback’s.

The BMW 2 Series stands alone among rivals in being a two-door car only, giving it genuine sports coupe appeal. It’s also one of the few cars of its size with rear-wheel drive, which will appeal to drivers who want a sporty feel.
