Audi A3 Cabriolet buying guide

Why buy the Audi A3 Cabriolet?

The Audi A3 Cabriolet is a compact convertible with elegant looks and an interior that has both a premium feel and enough space for four adults. It’s practical for a convertible, and relaxing to drive, so this is a car that you can use every day, not just on sunny days or on holiday.

Audi A3 Cabriolet range and updates

The most recent version of the A3 Cabriolet was sold from 2014 to 2020, replacing an older version sold from 2009 to 2013. It’s part of the wider Audi A3 range that also includes hatchbacks and saloons.

There’s a wide range of petrol and diesel engines available with either a manual or automatic gearbox, all creating enough power for rapid overtaking or for getting up to motorway speeds on a slip road. Some models also have ‘Quattro’ four-wheel drive. If you like the A3 Cabriolet but want a proper high-performance car, the Audi S3 Cabriolet is for you.

There are three trim levels available – SE, Sport and S line. The S line model has a sportier look and they all come very well equipped.

Audi A3 Cabriolet tech and features

All A3 Cabriolet models have a touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, DAB radio and Bluetooth, plus air con and an electrically operated roof that opens and closes quickly, even while you’re driving at up to 31mph. Many models also have sat nav, cruise control and parking sensors, while top-spec versions have luxuries like heated leather seats.

Audi A3 Cabriolet running costs and value

Given the amount of equipment included as standard, the A3 Cabriolet is excellent value. It’s also very cost effective to run. According to official figures, petrol A3 Cabriolet models can give fuel economy of 44-56mpg and diesels can give 67-70mpg. Every engine produces low CO2 emissions, so Vehicle Excise Duty (car tax) costs are reasonable, as is insurance.

Audi A3 Cabriolet vs rivals

The A3 Cabriolet has a small band of rivals including the BMW 2 Series Convertible and the Range Rover Evoque Convertible. The A3 Cabriolet is a great option that’s stylish, practical, relaxing to drive and cost-effective to run.
