Cars don’t get much more city-friendly than the Smart EQ. Thanks to its compact dimensions, it’ll fit into parking spaces that most cars won’t, while its electric motor gives nippy acceleration that allows you to grab any gap in traffic. And, of course, it produces zero emissions so you’re helping to keep the air cleaner.
The two-door, two-seat EQ fortwo version is the one to go for if you want to squeeze into parking spots that a moped would struggle to fit into. But the longer four-seat, four-door EQ forfour is still shorter than most compact hatchbacks and it allows you to bring a couple of friends along for the ride.
Although it’s very cost-effective, the EQ is well equipped, with standard features including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and, not that you’ll probably need it, a rear-view parking camera. Maximum battery range is about 80 miles, so more than enough for most urban adventures, while charging the battery from 10 to 80% capacity takes less than three-and-a-half hours.
